TESC degree plan - BA in English

Alright, y'all, after much thinking and pondering and planning, I've decided to dive in and pursue a BA in English from TESC. I *think* I have all my ducks in a row, but if you bright and wonderful Degree Gurus could look over this plan for me, that would be wonderful. Thanks SO much!

First thing, when you take the CLEP Analyzing & Interpreting Lit, you will only need 3 of the 6 credits to complete that portion of your requirements, the other 3 credits will be put up in humanities (so you can drop the Intro to World Religions). Second, all those CLEPs & 3 classes you have down in free electives? Scrap them & go to do the FEMA classes for free & have them transferred in. They're free to take, free to transfer in & for most majors they ONLY transfer in as free electives so I say go the cheap route! That's what I did. Since you already did 3 credits with the Intro to Film Arts then you will only need 24 FEMA's to fill up your free electives.

Ah! Thank you. I will definitely split that A&I CLEP and drop World Religions. And I'll look into FEMA courses and see what interests me. As of now, wherever I can, I am only taking courses and tests that interest me, instead of just trying to fulfill the credits. But I will definitely check that route out. Thanks, Amy!

You have four surplus credits in Humanities (1), Natural Sciences and Mathematics (1), and Gen Ed Electives (2) over the section requirements. If your evaluation populates anything like mine did originally, one of the courses currently listed under Gen Ed Electives will be moved down to Free Electives, and the surplus credit in Humanities will be entered as an exception to complete the Gen Ed Ele group. The surplus credit in Science/Math will be entered as an exception to Free Ele.

In other words, I think your evaluation will look more like this, leaving you with four credits too many planned in Free Electives. I would suggest dropping one to two courses in Free Ele. If you drop two, you would just need to find two FEMAs OR take the one-credit Jane Austin course and just one FEMA. Or you could just drop one of the courses under Free Electives, and just have one credit over.

I actually would like to do the same degree international student (canada) Any idea on the amount it would cost from scratch?
(cant do FEMA)

I did the math for my plan, based on course costs, test costs, testing center fees, TESC enrollment and fees, and current costs of the books. This can all change, because - especially when it comes to the money - things change all the time. I found that my plan should cost just under $11,000. That's definitely not the cheapest route to take, but I had to weigh cost and time against what I actively want to learn. And since I want an education, not just the degree, the extra cost and time is worth it to me.

Keep in mind that I already have some credits going into this, and since I was on scholarship when I earned those and they were free, I don't know what the cost is for those. I also don't know - though I imagine you've researched this - whether being an international student will change these costs.

Sorry to resurrect a thread but I am currently pursuing a degree in Business General Management from TESC. I'm considering changing my degree to English but am concerned I wont be able to finish it as all of the required courses are not offered.

Maybe someone here can enlighten me on how I can get this done. Also What do these terms mean?

This information is so old that it would be better to start a new thread in which you list the courses you already have and we go from there. TESC no longer accepts FEMA classes, and the General Education requirements have also changed a great deal.

BYU is Brigham Young University
CLEP is a very well-known credit-by-exam program
FEMA is Federal Emergency Management Agency, which TESC used accept for credit (but no longer does)

They don't even offer Survey of Lit I & II, so it's hard to know what you could take elsewhere as a substitution for those. You'd need a description from TESC for those. There are some CLEP's that you can take (Amer Lit, English Lit & Analyzing & Interpreting Lit), a DSST (Technical Writing), and some lit courses at CSU Pueblo, BYU Independent Study, other popular schools on this forum. But it's not a test-out degree like Management is. You'd also have to take the Capstone through TESC to finish up.

Survey of Lit can be tested out of with American Lit I and II or British Lit I and II, but really, let's start a new thread so people don't see this and think, "I'll do this!" when it is no longer a viable plan.
