TESC course exams vs. CLEP/DSST/ECE?
#1
I’ve never taken a TECEP, but I’ve taken 1 ECE. I found that quite a bit harder than even a UL DSST. My question: how does a midterm or final in a TESC course compare to a CLEP, DSST, or ECE? If it helps, the courses I’m in are "International Relations" and "Mass Communications I.” Thanks!

It depends highly on the course itself. You'll want to look at the syllabus for your specific course or you can use the TESC standard version for each class:

syllabus_COM-120-jan12
syllabus_POS-315-jan12

The way I'd compare the courses to an exam would be to say that your course examinations will be more focused. Looking at your courses, the Mass Comm I course has a midterm that has multiple choice, true/false, and essay questions. You essentially need a more focused view of the course modules mentioned and less about the subject in general. As long as you follow the guidelines which are focused on which learning modules they cover you should be fine. That course shows there is a final project rather than a final exam and is given as a 5-7 page paper.

On your other course (international relations), it says you'll find a 50 question multiple-choice exam for both the midterm and final exam. These will probably remind you of a CLEP/DSST exam but may also include matching or other questions which are linked to each other.

To answer your question, you should find that TESC courses will match a typical college course rather than a general subject exam such as CLEP/DSST. If you focus on the subject areas given by your instructor you may discover you like this format better as you are given more instructions regarding content.
My completed "non-traditional" credits include 27 credits from CLEP, 30 credits from DSST, 6 credits from ALEKS, 19 credits from FEMA courses including PDS, 3 credits from NFA courses, 10 credits from ACE Workplace Training, 3 credits from a TESC TECEP exam, and 3 credits from a TESC PLA course.

Like Cooperalex stated, it is dependent on the course, but for reference, the two midterms I took for my TESC courses were essay (short answer) based. I found that a little more difficult than multiple choice, but I received an 88 and a 94 on the exams, so as long as you do the reading and can explain the concepts, you should do well on short answer. Hope that helps.

Don't waste time by trying to save time. The only sure way to complete your degree is to knock out credits quickly and efficiently.

Don't let easiness bite you in the rear. Know your endgame (where you want to be) and plan backward from there. Your education is a means to an end.

Be honest professionally, socially and academically. There are people (especially little ones) who look up to you and they're going by your example.

Be proud. Whether you're an Engineer or Fast Food worker, there is honor and dignity in hard work.

Picking on people weaker than you only proves that you are a weak person.

The best advice my professors could give was to study the textbooks :willynilly: Thankfully I have the online companions for both courses, so I have some quizzes.

Thank you both!
