TESC and Social Science question...

Hello everyone.

Can anyone answer this question for me:

Under what degree program @ TESC is the DSST Organizational Behavior exam considered a Social Science credit instead of a Business credit?

On page 107 in the college catalog it shows the listing of all the DANTES exams. There are two asterisks next to Organizational Behavior. In the footnotes at the bottom left of the page it states..."This examination may be classified either as social sciences or business, depending on the student's degree program."

The reason I'm asking is because I'm thinking about switching my degree plan from the BA in Communications to the BA in Liberal Studies. The reason being is because I can "test out" of alot more courses than I could under the Communications major. Under the Communications major, I would have to take 9 courses online for 27 credits. It looks like under the BA in Liberal Studies, I might be able to "test out" of a BA degree completely(don't quote me on that...I'm still researching as we speak.) So I was just wondering if the Organizational Behavior class would count as a Social Science credit.

Organizational Behavior is considered social science in the Liberal Studies degree. However, it would satisfy the social sciences requirement in any degree; if you were in need of social science credits and took that exam, they would apply it there.

I was waiting on someone to rag on me about that!!!hilarious You are 2 funny!!! You always make me laugh...thanks!!!

Now I guess it's time for me to explain myself! In the Communications degree, I had everything planned out perfectly but the only problem was I still had to take 9 classes (online) to finish my core requirements. The problem with that is....well....MONEY!!! I am very tight on money right now and I only work part-time (night shift). Paying for online classes and paying for TESC's enrollment fee would cost me a pretty hefty penny, especially since I'll be paying for everything out of my own pocket. Of course these costs don't even include the CLEP/DANTES exams I pay for already.

I decided to look around on TESC's website and see if there were any majors I could choose from (under the B.A umbrella), which would allow me at least to take less classes than with the Communications degree. When I got down to the Liberal Studies degree and jotted down some notes & figures....I only needed one class--and that's just to establish a GPA @ TESC. If it wasn't for that, I could COMPLETELY test out of a Liberal Studies degree just using CLEP and DANTES!!!

So the numbers are as follows: 18 CLEPS + 10 DANTES +1 Online Communications course = BA in Liberal Studies. I have already taken 10 CLEP exams thus far so the train is still moving forward...amicably!!!Because of this find alone I just saved myself around $2,000. I doubt that a communications major holds that much more "prestige" than a liberal studies degree so I decided to change. I plan on going to grad school next year anyway(probably at the end of summer) and getting my Masters degree in the education arena.

Basically, I wanted a degree I could do quickly, cheaply, and move on with my life. I believe going this route is the most efficient way for me to accomplish these goals.

I was sure you'd "get" the tone of my post. You never disappoint! I'm psyched to hear that you can test out almost entirely of your "new and improved" degree plan.

Planning to post the new plan so I can steal from it?

You need to re-work your humanities. You only have one subject area.

- CLEP Analyzing and Interpreting Literature (6)
- CLEP American Literature (6)

Marshall I think you keep changing degree programs because you enjoy making up new plans

I do think you are going to have a problem with your humanities, two kinds of literature will not be considered different subject areas. You need to put a different subject in there, maybe you can switch it around with some of your electives?

Actually...I do find great pleasure in creating sample degree plans, however, I believe this is a good move for me because it saves me money.

As far as my humanities requirement goes, I'll just take the Humanities CLEP instead of the American Literature CLEP. Since I've already studied for this exam, I'll just take it to meet my core requirements. I was trying my best to avoid the Humanities CLEP exam but I guess I can't dodge it forever!!!
