TESC Social Science Degre Plan - need advice please
#1
I have been reading on this forum for a while and I finally made an account because I need some advice. My background. I obtained AA criminal justice through uop while I was in the army. I also have DLPT credits. I applied to COSC and my transcripts was evaluated for 78credits (criminal justice program) I needed another option so applied also to TESC but my transcripts hasn't evaluated yet. My first choice was COSC but with the course requirements that I need to fullfill ...I don't think I would be able to finish all these year. So I'm leaning towards to test out most of the courses and hoping to accomplish at the end of this year. I decided to take TESC BA Social Science. Requirements:
PSYCHOLOGY
1. 230 Intro to Educational Psy - CLEP
2. 211 Human Growth and Development - CLEP
3. 361 Organizational Behavior - DSST *UL
4. 101 Intro to Psychology
SOCIOLOGY
1. 101 Intro to Sociology - CLEP
2. Cultural Diversity - course from uop hopefully its EQUIVALENT to TESC SOC upper level
3. Juvenile Delinquency - course from uop hopefully its EQUIVALENT to TESC SOC upper level
HISTORY
1. HIS309 Intro to Modern Middle East - DSST
2. HIS351 A History of the Vietnam War - DSST
3. HIS386 Rise and Fall of the Soviet Union - DSST
Is this correct plan to fullfill the requirements? Hopefully to receive my TESC evaluation soon.

My long-term goal is to obtain Master in Social Work or Psychology maybe... Im really tired of being treated like sh*** at home and hoping to finish my my bachelors this year and move on.

thank you all in advance.

Can you post all of the credits you earned at UoP? Some criminal justice courses will count as social sciences while others won't. I made an almost 100% test out plan for TESC's Social Science program. However, I didn't include the general education requirements because there are too many options for those.

You might be able to put computer applications in natural science. It depends on how TESC evaluates it. Tagalog could fit into general education electives as humanities credit. Inventory Management and Control wouldn't count as GE credit. The CJ courses you put in GE will probably end up in free electives too. Just to give you an idea, I'll list my CJ courses and how TESC evaluated them.

Counted as social science
Intro to Law Enforcement
Intro to CJ
Fundamentals of Criminal Law
Juvenile Justice System

Not counted as social science
Court Systems and Practices
Correctional Systems and Practices
Intro to Homeland Security

TESC only applies theoretical criminal justice courses as social sciences. Applied professional courses such as security aren't. It depends on what the course description says.

I appreciate your input. So what courses should be in general elective?

While Im waiting for the evaluation I am going take CLEP /DSST for general elective. What courses did you take with your GE before?

Contemporary Business Communication can stay. I don't know how many credits TESC will give you for Tagalog. Intro to Policy may or may not be able to stay. The inventory course will definitely go to free electives because it's a business course. Your other CJ credits have a chance of being in free electives. Other than that, I don't see anything else that can go in general education electives. You can find appropriate tests at the links below. Ignore the human services category because it's wrong. Anything listed under natural science/mathematics, social science, or humanities can be counted as a general education elective.

What are you lacking at COSC? Except in a few UL requirement instances I would be really surprised if they aren't very competitive. If you want to share what they told you I will try to see if there is a COSC "path of least resistance". Smile

I'm always happy to complete the free application waiver for those applying to WGU (I get a free gift from WGU for this).  Just PM me your first/last name and a valid email so I can complete their form.

Hi Rebel100, with COSC I have to finish 42 credits more I can do CLEP or DSST with the general eds that Im missing
1. Oral Communication - Public Speaking/DSST
2. Ethical Decision Making - Ethics in America/DSST
3. Global Understanding - Intro to World Religion/DSST
4. Literature and Fine Arts - ???
5. Math - I did not get a credit with the Algebra that I took from UOP
6. US Histoy/Government - American Gov/CLEP
7. Statistic - DSST?
8. Research Method
9. Criminology
10. Ethics
11. Information Technology -DSST/CLEP
12. Constitutional Law
13. CJ capstone
- Cornerstone

Thats for criminal justice program. Testing out is my best option with my situation right now because I dont have much time for writing papers. I have 2 kids that are under 3yrs and they are very needy. No help or support. Its very difficult but I really need to finish my degree asap and get out of this situation that Im in right now.

You probably have the Master List of Exams from COSC already but it's here if not: http://www.charteroak.edu/Current/Academ...r-list.pdf

For Lit I would take the CLEP Analyzing and Interpreting Literature...6 credits and you can probably pass it cold.

Take Statistics through ALEKS..that will satisfy both the Math requirement and the Statistics requirement...its $20/month self paced...get a tutor if you need and bust this out.

Ethics can be done by saylor.org business ethics course (I don't know anyone thats done it, but it has the right pedigree and its <$25 for the whole thing)

Research Methods is only available as a class...I think, CSU-Pueblo has it, self paced, for around $475 Ditto on the Criminology and Con Law.....did they spec those as being required for CJ? They are usually more willing to let you substitute other courses which would open things u a bit.

COSC Cornerstone and Capstone are decidedly writing intensive. If that really is a big deal for you then it might be a deal breaker for COSC.

Where is your UL coming from?
