TESC Saylor Pathway to ASBA

I'm a newbie and just happened to stumble on this forum. I didn't even know TESC or schools like it existed until recently, but now I am starting to think TESC is the way to go. I see a lot of different types of degree plans on here and am wondering if there is any specific reason to not follow the TESC/Saylor Pathway to ASBA the way they suggest it? Is putting together an alternate plan a cheaper/more efficient option? I would eventually like to move on to a BSBA in Accounting.

Also, I will be moving to NJ next year. Would it make sense to do as much of my studying as possible now and then enroll in TESC next year when I can take advantage of resident tuition?

The reason why you shouldn't follow the Open Course Option is because it's stupid. It suggests PLAs where you don't need them. PLAs are very tedious; it's much easier to just take a CLEP or DSST. Also, in order to submit a PLA, you need to take the PLA courses at TESC or another college. Kaplan does offer a free PLA course that TESC will recognize, but it will teach you how to format your portfolio the way Kaplan wants it. There are directions online for how to put together a TESC portfolio, but you're taking a risk by trying to put one together without formal instruction. Your portfolio could be rejected, and that's money down the drain.

Another problem with the Open Course Option plan they put together is that it is unnecessarily expensive. The plan is built assuming that you will choose the Enrolled Options Plan. The enrollment fee under this tuition plan is over $3,000. If you choose the Per Credit Tuition Plan and complete 12 credits in residence using TECEPs, you can save a lot of money.

So are you saying it's possible to complete it without doing any PLAs?? It sounds like you have to take a PLA course, no matter what, but taking a course and not having to do any PLAs isn't a big deal.

You don't have to take a PLA course at all if you're not going to submit a portfolio. There are plenty of other options for the Intellectual and Practical Skills requirement. All of the requirements can be completed through testing, Straighterline, Saylor NCCRS/ACE-approved courses, etc.
