TESC Psych - question about UL credits
#1
Hi

I'm trying to plan out my tests, etc. I have seen things worded two different ways on TESC site.

Do the 18 UL credits have to be IN the psych classes? ---can the DSST Ethics in AMerica and DSST World Religions and Capstone classes 'count' as part of the 18?

Thats what its looking like due to the verbiage here:

"Complete 21 Semester Hours (SH) of Psychology Department courses as electives. **At least 15 of the 30 credits required within the entire Area of Study must be at the 300/400 level.** "

The UL requirements for all TESC programs are in the area of study. The capstone does count toward the UL requirements for the BA programs.

I was confused with UL and LL at first. I believe TESC uses their own system, they do not always follow ACE recommendations. It's my understanding that DSST-Organizational Behavior, DSST-Fundamentals of Counseling and DSST-Substance Abuse count as UL Psych Electives. It looks like TESC might accept Excelsior's Credit by Exam. Excelsior has a couple of tests that might count as UL, Social Psychology and Research Methods in Psychology. There might be a few others. I think the two CLEP tests count as LL. Abnormal Psychology TECEP is UL. UL refers to classes that are 300 or 400 level.

So....I cant get any answers from TESC yet (still waiting on one transcript, which is taking forever, before they will tell me anything...)

I have some lower level "counseling" and "substance abuse" credits (I'm a drug and alcohol counselor and did a program at my local community college). Do you guys think that TESC would consider the DSST-Fundamentals of Counseling and DSST-Substance Abuse as a "duplicate" ?? or would they NOT be a duplicate since my other classes were all lower level?

I think it mostly depends on how TESC transfers the classes in. If it was taken at a CC it will most likely be classified as LL. You may have to wait until your academic eval is complete and then check with TESC. If the DSST exams duplicate your previous credits then you would lose the previous credits but would gain UL credits.

Oh ok. Got it. I would be fine with losing some of my lower level train some upper. I think I might end up with extra lower level ones anyway. If the DSSTs can replace LL then I'm happy Smile
