I'm having a bit of trouble understanding my mathematics requirements for my TESC course of study. It states on their site I need 6 credits of Precalculus Algebra or above. It also has two asterisks afterwards and the legend states "**Some areas of study require a full year of Calculus." I'm not sure if this means MY area of study requires that full year of calc. I have already taken the CLEP College Mathematics test and passed and that's 6 credits, plus I have 3 credit hours for "Intermediate Algebra" from Western Michigan Univ. Any guidance on if either of these would count toward math credit for me? BTW, my degree is the BSAST in Aviation Maintenance Technology.

Thomas Edison State College | BSAST in Aviation Maintenance Technology Credit Distribution
That reads funny to me too. Hmm... I'm definitely no expert on TESC or aviation, but CLEP College Math plus any intermediate algebra course should
not be good enough to clear any requirement involving pre-calculus. I think what they are referring to with "areas of study" is that in the credit distribution for that major, the first section is "General Education Requirements" and the second is "Area of Study: Aviation Maintenance Technology". As you can see, there are more accepted courses in each subcategory than are required, giving you some leeway. So they are saying that you don't need full calculus
to complete the degree per se, but there are individual courses mentioned that would need it.
My two cents: you also need Physics1, Physics2 and Chemistry1. You will actually make your life much harder by
avoiding calc than embracing it.

I appreciate the response....I do have a semester of Physics from WMU, but i'm not sure how many credits that counts for. I was hoping I could avoid the Calculus courses, but if it needs to be done..... I still haven't sent in an application to TESC, so I'm probably going to have to do that to get a review of what i've got...problem is, I hear it takes forever for them to do a credit eval.

Follow the link in my siggy line for doing your own unofficial credit evaluation- that should give you a start. Physics 1 with lab is usually 4 credits. Without lab, it would be 3.
In your degree plan, it might be a good idea to go ahead with the eval- anything outside of the liberal arts or business can be more tricky, so you'd at least know where you stand.
