Ok so I am getting a Bs from excelsior I am wrapping up my last class for my sociology requirement right now. I have been trying since January to possibly add a second major in history as that is what I had originally started out in college. I enrolled in dec of 2009 so I am under the old requirements. Here is how the requirement is worded in the catalog: At least one course that directly or indirectly addresses the nature of historical inquiry or research (such as Histiography, Historical methodology, Philosophy of History, or a seminar course in history requiring primary research) [His 440 Histiography}
The way I interpret this is although the only course Excelsior used to offer to meet this was Histiography however if you took a course requiring primary research this would count. However my advisior is basically telling me if I go outside of Excelsior it has to be titled Histiography and meet the same content as their course did.
My advisor has been wrong on a couple of things before. Is there a way to go over the advisors head or get assigned to new advisor?
I had sent syllabi of couple of courses I took at Harvard Extension which required primary research but she didn't even look at them since they werent histiography. Then I tried to get approved for one of the Brigham Young courses in family history research. To me these courses involve carrying out historical research however she says they are too focused and don't cover the same content as Excelsiors course did. All she does is stuggest courses which are full term classes and being that we are in March would be another semester but I really would like to be done and walk in this years graduation.
Any ideas or advice?
