TESC CLEP and DSST Questions

I'm trying to help a guy at work plan out his exams for their BSBA in Marketing. Two questions have arisen:

1) According to the College Catalog the CLEP Financial Accounting counts as 6 credits (ACT 101 and 102). Does this one test take care of both the Financial and the Managerial accounting requirements for the BSBA?

2) Does the DSST Intro to Computers count as a Natural Science elective, and is it considered duplicative credit to the CLEP Info Sys & Comp App?

Hey Rusty!

To answer question number 1, the answer is a big fat "NO!!!" The Financial Accounting CLEP is worth only 3 credits. The Old Principles of Accounting exam was worth 6 credits because it did include both Financial Accounting and Managerial Accounting.

CLEP has eliminated the Managerial Accounting portion because I believe the failure rate was too high. So now it is just Financial Accounting only, and again is worth only 3 credits.

To answer question number 2, DSST Introduction to Computing is counted as a Natural Science/Math credit at TESC. Although I'm not sure how they assign this credit at other institutions. The Information Systems and Computer Applications CLEP should be listed under the Business category and therefore should not duplicate credit.

The information that I've given you has been given to me by many members on this forum. As I am a big fan of "being on the safe side," it wouldn't hurt to shoot TESC an email to confirm what I just said.
