I guess it would probably depend on the school, the program (some schools have different entrance requirements for different programs) and competitiveness of entrance to the program.
All that I've looked at do want to see a GPA, at minimum, and some want to know the GPA in the area of study. Some have even more requiremnets such as getting letters of recommendation, writing an essay, having worked a certain number of years in the field of study etc. It's best to check the requirements of the indivual school and program to know exactly what is required.

My son will graduate from TESC in June without a GPA. He has applied and was accepted to AMU for fall, no questions asked.

Does ones GPA at TESC come only from those courses taken at TESC (not those transferred in or TECEP's)?

That is my understanding from what I have read here.

Some of the schools I looked at have specific GPA requirements. Here's how it's usually worded.
A 2.5 GPA is required on all baccaleurate coursework or a 3.0 GPA is required on the last 60 credit hours. Total GPA: 200 x GPA + GMAT score = 950 GPA of last 60 credits: 200 x GPA + GMAT score = 1050 I don't know if they're looking at how many courses actually have a grade when they do this.

I am definitely taking discrete math etc then if I can get into grad school w/ a 2.5. I assumed the minimum was 3.0. I was shying away from courses like that because I worried I would screw my GPA if they were ridiculously hard. I'll definitely research more.

Some schools require a 2.75 but will make exceptions if you petition the dean. Northcentral University | Online Degree Programs | Online Learning has no gap requirement and is entirely online with no gmat either. Don't let that open enrollment fool you into thinking you can get by on good looks in this program however. You have to read the primary text the whole way through plus several journal articles that you have to find in order to do well on the writing assignments. The good thing about ncu is the focus on writing. Once you finish the masters you will have written as much as a typical PhD student and much more than most other masters programs. I know a bunch of people taking MBA courses and who have completed masters programs and ncu is heavy on writing in comparison.

MBA Applied Computer Science from NCU Enrolled at NCU in the PhD Applied Computer Science dcan Wrote:2.5?!?! Texas A&M-Commerce is AACSB accredited and will waive the GMAT if you have at least a 3.0. I can't seem to find the lowest GPA they'll accept. All their website says that if you have a GPA below a 3.0, you need at least a 500 on the GMAT. University of South Dakota only requires a 2.7 for their MBA program and accepts a "satisfactory score" on the GMAT. It is, too, AACSB accredited. University of Houston-Victoria only requires a 2.5 and is also AACSB accredited. Prairie View A&M University (AACSB) only requires a 2.45. People would be amazed at how many AACSB schools are cheap and easy to get into. I could go on and on. University of North Texas only requires a 2.8 with no minimum score on the GMAT/GRE/MAT. |
