TESC BA Mathematics General Education Requirements
#1
Hello, I am looking for some feedback/advice about the following TESC courses from anyone who has taken them. I am not sure what is easy and quick to complete these - OL, TECEP or CLEP, assuming all three options are available. I don't see too many 100 level courses to choose from the catalog

• Introduction to Anthropology (ANT-101)
• Introduction to Sociology (SOC-101)
World History from 1600 to Present (HIS-126)

Thanks in advance

Straighterline has options for the first two. Not sure if western civ fits the last one.
Currently studying for: Still deciding.

Done!
2020 - Harvard Extension School - ALM IT Management
2019 - Harvard Extension School - Graduate Certificate Data Science
2018 - Harvard Extension School - Graduate Certificate Cyber Security
2016 - WGU - MBA Mgmt & Strategy
2015 - Thomas Edison State College - BSBA Marketing & CIS

Cultural anthropology and sociology are available at straighterline. Anthropology is a straight forward course there and can be completed fairly quickly. I haven't taken the sociology course yet.

World History from 1600 to Present is a TECEP, and there are study materials free at Saylor that align with the exam.
HIST103: World History in the Early Modern and Modern Eras (1600-Present) | Saylor Academy

The other Saylor courses that align to TECEPs (and other exams) can be found here:
http://www.saylor.org/majors/credit-aligned-courses/
Aleks: Beginning, Intermediate, College Algebra, Trigonometry, Intro to Statistics
Straighterline: Cultural Anthropology, Religion, Biology, Environmental Science, Philosophy, Eng Comp I, C++.
Working on - Eng Comp II, Intro Comm
Sophia Intro to Psych
TEEX: CYB101, CYB201, CYB301
NFA: Q318, Q118, Q137
Kaplan: Documenting Experiences

Goal: Complete Gen Ed. requirements.

I posted that link to show you that you have way more options than those 3 courses. You don't need any 100-level courses for your degree outside of specifically-named courses that just happen to be 100 level, but there are plenty of them to choose from. Even upper level courses can go in gen ed.

Sanantone,

Thank you for the information. I am looking at the 100-level courses thinking they would be relatively easier than the upper level courses and thus can try to complete them sooner. I do have a ton of upper level courses as requirements for a Math degree and would like to avoid them for General Ed if I can.

100-level tests aren't always the easiest. For example, a few of the 100-level science CLEPs are much more difficult than several of the 200 level and UL DSSTs and CLEPs. Analyzing and Interpreting Literature is one of the easiest CLEPs that people barely have to study for because it's basically a reading comprehension exam, but it's 200-level. Fundamentals of Counseling is one of the easiest DSSTs, but it's counted as an UL psychology course at TESC. Ease varies by an individual's strengths and interests, but most people agree that those tests are pretty easy.

In general, TECEPs and Uexcels will be more difficult than CLEPs and DSSTs. You might find these links helpful.
