Any suggestions for places where I could take any of these courses (that I can't test out of) cheap and at my own pace?
It would be awesome if I could finish the course when I'm ready rather than having to wait a predetermined amount of time.
Also, (this question probably has an obvious answer but, like I said, I'm very new to this) how do I go about figuring out which courses or tests will be the correct equivalent?
PLA is prior learning assessment. It refers to learning outside of a classroom such as work experience, training or other non credit programs. It involves some type of assessment such as challenge exams, ACE/NCCRS recommendations, recommendation by college or Portfolio Assessment. A portfolio assessment is a narrative/collection of documents that demonstrate mastery of a specific college course.
Some colleges offer self paced courses. Some of those do have restrictions on how fast you can move through the course. Some restrict the number of assignments you can complete each week. For UL credit you would need to look at a 4 year college. Most 2 year/cc are evaluated as ll.
TESC has a couple of charts that show equivalencies for CLEP/DSST. Excelsior also offers credit by exam. TESC has their own credit by exam program, TECEP. Some colleges also offer challenge exams/credit by exams, some of which TESC might also accept.
