I have a question that I am hoping someone here will either know the answer to, or perhaps volunteer to ask their TESC advisor.
DH has been waffling a little about his studies and has decided that since he's been moving slowly, it might be better to get an associates degree first, so that at least he has something while he's taking a few years to get the bachelor's.
I have heard of an AAS in Occupational Studies/Emergency Management where you can use FEMA's entirely for your 21 credits in an area of study. This would be VERY cheap to do and could make the degree happen even sooner.
I couldn't find this particular associates degree on the TESC website, so does it not exist anymore or do I have the name wrong? I see that there is an AAS in Environmental Safety and Security Technologies. Could that be it? Does anyone know of any TESC associates where you can use FEMA's for anything other than just the general electives. He already has most of his electives and is looking to save time/money on the specific area of study.
Thanks!!

Thanks for checking... he may have to check with TESC. On the Google search, there is a link to a different forum where someone says that they have the AAS Occupational Studies using FEMA's, but I still don't see the option actually on the TESC site.. I hope they didn't get rid of it!
Thanks

I dont think that they got rid of it as it is still listed on the webadvisor side. I think they are not advertising it due to the fact that they would have a huge number of ppl enrolling and wanting to use that as their degree plan.

That is really good to know. TESC is more expensive than COSC or EC for an associates, but if the FEMA's can be used as an area of study, it would really balance things out.

I am not too sure as them being used as an area of study as I have been told that they can only be applied to the elective area. Even when I requested access to the homeland security degree plan my fema credits fell under the free elective area automatically. It still is work asking though. Please let me know what you find out.

Coincidentally I was looking into an EM AAS today. Clackamas Community College has one that requires 93 FEMA courses (only $30 each to transcribe for credit vs FCC!) and
only four basic gen-ed courses!
The catch... They require 5 state-provided EM courses. They are in Oregon. But they did get 5 states to partner to provide the same or equivalent courses locally, so you may be in luck. I was not.

ooooh that sounds interesting. I'll have to check it out.
DH sent an email to TESC and now we're just waiting for a response. Since he's not actually enrolled (though has paid 75 for the evaluation), we'll probably hear back sometime next week.
