Need Graduate level classes in Early Childhood Education
#1
Hey folks,
Question for my wife.  My wife is currently a teacher in NYC and wants to get an extension on her certification so she can teach kindergarten.  In order to teach Kindergarten she needs to get 6 credits in any early childhood education courses at the Graduate level.  Does anyone know if there is a place to get such credits fast and or on the cheap?

Thanks all,
Mike

Ideas made a great post you can look at: https://www.degreeforum.net/mybb/Thread-...ate+credit

I'll see if I can't find anything else. Ask her to confirm whether or not the prefix has to be something specific. In other words, there are TONS of teacher's programs that offer graduate credit in various subjects for CHEAP but almost always have EDU prefix. Would a course with EDU prefix that was related to early childhood be ok, or does it have to be a different prefix? She shouldn't guess- they'll have a clear guideline.

Full Masters of Education in Early Childhood for $8000

Only $250/credit give or take a few bucks. She could enroll as degree seeking and then stop after she gets her 6. (they allow enrolling in classes without being degree seeking, but I can't find the price)

I found many in the $500/credit range, but this is by far the least expensive I found that were specific to Early Childhood. I can tell you the EDU question is still on the table, because those are under $100/credit if she can use them.

Coopersmith has a bunch of undergraduate ECE courses at $150 per class. Those could be placed onto a Big Three transcript. They do have one graduate level EDU course.

I have been looking at the Continuing Education program at Fresno Pacific.  They are graduate level classes at fairly reasonable prices and they have a section of Early Childhood Development classes.  I have been looking at the Literature classes.  Here is the link:  https://ce.fresno.edu/independent-studie...se-listing

Just for the sake of completeness on this topic...

Texas A&M Agrilife Extension offers cheap, non-credit online early childhood classes:

https://extensiononline.tamu.edu/courses/child_care.php

These can be used to earn the Childhood Development Associate credential:

http://www.cdacouncil.org/credentials/apply-for-cda

The CDA can earn credits at TESU:

Note: The TESU credits are undergrad., not grad.

Wow, this is great. I'm a teacher who doesn't work for a local school system so I have to find and accumulate Prof Dev credits on my own to renew my license every 5 years. I don't need ECE credits but you guys pointed out some resources I had not heard of that I could really use. Thanks OP for asking this question and thank you all for your responses.
