Hi. I'm looking into taking some Marketing/advertising exams from TECEP but I have no working experience in these feilds. I was hoping that studying the recommended books would allow me to pass. What are your opinions on this? I am pretty capable of studying and getting good grades but the exams are not exactly based off the text books. Do you think this is smart of me? I just need a couple more upper level courses to get my bachelors degree.
Thanks,
Karlie

I've done the same. I've found it helpful to group them together, because much of the material overlaps. I have no marketing experience, but I found the subjects to be interesting and the tests to be pretty manageable.
Currently studying for: Still deciding.

I also have to take 8 TECEP's for my residency requirement. Some of them have other ways to study (College Algebra, Statistics, Microeconomics, Managerial Accounting, Strategic Management), but others just don't (Marketing Communications, Sales Management & Advertising).
I was planning on studying the textbooks, then forking over the money to just take the exams and see how I do. I'm not sure there's much else I can do at this point.
If you end up taking the courses, please post and let us know how you do.

I'm planning to take the advertising exam. I will use the suggested textbook to study, but may also find other sources too. I debated between marketing vs advertising, but marketing has an essay which I hate because they can be so subjective & then you have to hope that whomever is grading agrees with you. I'd rather take the advertising multiple choice exam & not have to feel like I am walking on eggshells.

I've taken the following TECEPs and can provide feedback (business/upper level ones):
MAR-323 Advertising
FIN-321 Security Analysis & Portfolio Mgt
FIN-331 Financial Inst. and Mrkts.
BUS-421 Strategic Management
My only experience/knowledge of Marketing was straight from what I studied from Principles of Marketing; otherwise, I read up on a previous edition of the textbook and carried it with me everywhere. In fact, for all of these a previous edition of the textbook was enough. Security Analysis in particular had two textbooks to study for it and one hasn't been updated since 1993 I believe (but its concepts such as selling short and hand gestures used on the trading floor are still applicable). If you go for a previous edition it shouldn't cost you much.
I suggest you contact bricabrac here at the forum, as she has helped me on all the TECEPs I've taken. TESC also has this, although I've found that the TECEPs I've taken tend to pull more directly from the suggested text: http://www.tesc.edu/degree-completion/do..._TECEP.pdf
Case in point: Psychology of Women has questions regarding various statistics/demographics, and the only way to know is to have studied it before or to dig through the text.

Has anyone taken the Sales Management TECEP? I have been studying for about 10 days by just skimming the material about a half hour a day. It seems pretty basic but haven't not taken a TECEP before I am not sure what to expect. I was on a healthy pace to finishing my degree but i haven't taken an exam in about a month because of waiting on textbook to arrive and not knowing where to start.
Any insight would be greatly appreciated. Also any insight on some of the easier TECEPs would also be appreciated.
