College Board/CLEP itself does not have any limit on how many you can take, but each school has limits on which CLEPs they accept and what score is required for credit. You can see on Modern States which ones can be done using the vouchers for a zero-cost.

That's correct, CLEP shouldn't have a restriction, it's the institution that would allow anywhere from 30-60 all the way up to 90 credits from alternative sources, generally it's 30 credits through exams such as CLEP. Saving cash is a great idea, I would mix/match the CLEP/MS option with Sophia.org if the institution accepts Sophia.org or ACE credit options...

Hi BJ!

Awesome! Sounds good, Looks like I will try to get as many CLEP's done. I plan on transferring everything to UMPI. Not sure how that works lol

Also yes, Sophia is currently on my radar

For UMPI, Sophia will be infinitely more efficient. There are many degree plans on the Wiki. I’m sure BJ will chime in with a more thorough recommendation.

Once you get into a rhythm, CLEPs are a great way to earn college credit.

A typical on-campus college course would take you 100 hours.

CLEPs can be done in 20 hours or less, which is 5x faster. (excluding specific hard math or science CLEPs)
Degrees: BA Computer Science, BS Business Administration with a concentration in CIS, AS Natural Science & Math, TESU. 4.0 GPA 2022.
Course Experience:  CLEP, Instantcert, Sophia.org, Study.com, Straighterline.com, Onlinedegree.org, Saylor.org, Csmlearn.com, and TEL Learning.
Certifications: W3Schools PHP, Google IT Support, Google Digital Marketing, Google Project Management

Yeah, CLEP exams are mulitple choice and if you crammed the CLEP study guide for the subject, you can get a passing score pretty easy.

I did five or six CLEP exam with modern states and have successfully transfer them to TESU.

You do have to pay a fee to transcript the scores if you didn't decide on a school when you take the CLEP

As an avid CLEP taker, I can attest that if you focus on 1 exam at a time and cram the info in for a few days, most of the exams should not be too difficult to pass. Using Modern States is a great way to keep costs down as well as they give a voucher for a free CLEP if you pass their quizzes. They even pay for your parking fees if the test location has a parking ramp. I used a combination of Modern States and YouTube to pass all my exams. Crash Course and Khan Academy are 2 great YouTube sources.

Biggest pointer I can give is to search for the school you want to transfer to, find their CLEP transfer policy, and study it. Things to watch out for are higher than anticipated passing rates, such as your school needing a score of 80 compared to another school only needing a 60, as well as the Writing courses that have modular/written portions along with them. Not all schools require the written portions, and unfortunately for those that do, their grading can be pretty harsh at times with no feedback given. I "failed" Analyzing and Interpreting Literature according to my Community College because I didn't pass the written portion, but Excelsior accepted it as a pass because I score high enough on my exam portion. That is your last piece of advice I can give you as well, just because your target school doesn't like the grade, others may still take it as a pass, just do the best you can and good luck.

For ease, speed, Sophia.org would be much much better. For the penny pincher, CLEP/MS would do for the cost. I would go the Sophia.org route most of the time and only take CLEP if it is worth 6 credits or in a class/course not offered by CLEP... It's a good idea to try to have a balanced mix/match of the two if possible, it also depends on the institution, some community colleges do not accept ACE unless the student is active service person.
