Study.com transfer credits and TESU
#1
Hi Everyone!  I hope you’re all doing well and staying safe out there. Throughout the pandemic, I have began working on getting a Bachelors degree in psychology. I currently hold a Bachelors in music / vocal performance from NYU @1996 graduate.  I’ve been a working theatre actor in NYC for the past 20 years. Covid has thrown a wrench into my life, so to speak.  So, I began my endeavor with online classes at a community college and discovered Study.com. I’m looking to transfer my credits from both Study.com, the community college, and those from my Bachelors. I’ve researched the course curriculum at TESU and have fulfilled 109 credits towards the psychology degree. I’d like any advice out there. Ideally, I would enroll at TESU in May. Is a September or January graduation possible?  I know that there is a LOT in this post. Any help or guidance out there would be much appreciated. Thank you for your time and consideration!  Be safe!  Be well!

If you're set on TESU (I'm not sure I would be), it's better to enroll as soon as you can so you can get your transfers in, and be certain of how they will apply and what you need to still complete. That being said, a September graduation is almost certainly within reach if you have the time, and January 2022 should be no problem.

The reason I would be hesitant of TESU is because they have a hefty $3200 residency waiver fee if you don't take 16 credits from them. With all the credits you have, there may be a much more affordable option out there. Depending on your career goals, you may want to explore one of these other options available.
In Progress: MBA - HAUniv, Anticipated 2024

I would highly recommend applying to TESU and enrolling now, ASAP. That way you know 100% for certain where your credits will go and what requirements you still need to fulfill. IIRC, you'll need at least 24 NEW credits beyond your Bachelor's degree. So only 96 credits will apply to your Psychology degree. Since the psych AOS is 30 credits, you should be good there. But, again, you need to send in your transcripts to be completely sure.

You'll also need Coopersmith, in addition to SDC, for your Psych degree. In case you haven't seen it, check out this sample plan on the wiki: https://degreeforum.miraheze.org/wiki/Sa...egree_Plan

If you're getting a 2nd bachelor's degree, you get a waiver for the GE and Free Electives, as well as the Cornerstone.

That leaves 39cr in the Area of Study (major), including the capstone.

You don't need anything except Study.com and a UExcel exam to get all of your credits (Coopersmith is not needed).

So I guess everything has been put on the back burner for a while because of that crap.

You can take the 16-18 residency credits by taking 2 terms and completing your requirements while you're at it:
1) Term 1, take the Cornerstone and 6 credit Social Psychology course you're missing for the degree at TESU
2) Term 2, take the Capstone and an easier course for Psychology, be it lower level or upper level at TESU.
OR a combination of both, if you have tuition assistance/reimbursement, it'll be much easier to get this cheaper!

There is also Charter Oak State College (COSC) and Excelsior College (EC). Coffeee has an even better suggestion of just going straight to a master's program. You're going to have to take 30 additional UL credits for EC because you already hold a bachelor's degree. And yes it must ALL be UL credits for them. They're pretty tough on second bachelor's degrees. I went through this with them last year and decided it wasn't worth the time or cost.

Oh I just realized something about this idea. If the OP is a NY resident, Walden is not an option. Walden is not open to residents of NY and RI. There must be other online programs that would accept the OP with a bachelor's degree not in psych.
