Student ID Card & Sophia Question & LO 2D Updated

Hi Everyone! 

How are you all?  Okay, I've got a few moments to update you now!

My UMPI student ID card was printed and mailed out today.  I originally posted instructions to e-mail Amy, but that is not correct.  You just e-mail the IT Department, which is help@umpi.edu.  Include your ID Form, and your Photo.  You can follow the progress, and they e-mail you an alert when there is a change to your IT request.  I put in the request Wednesday, and so it took 2 days.

Q:  What if I enroll in a class, and try a quiz to see how the class is, but then decide it's awful.
Can I drop a course on Sophia, without it reflecting 'started and dropped' on my Sophia Transcript? I don't want a bunch of sloppiness on there, nor do I want to explain myself that I was just testing the waters.

Q:  On Sophia, if I have a 98% before a Touchstone halfway through the class, and get only a 70 on one of two Touchstones, do they impact the overall grade a lot?  How much is it worth?  Like on the Unit Exams we know those questions are weighted 3x.  Well, the reason I ask is because I just submitted a Touchstone.  I was not able to stick to the instructions, precisely, because my company ended up having 3 groups instead of 1 group for a certain thing.  This meant, I simply could not explain correctly with just "1 to 2 sentences" and instead had lengthier answers.  I did address this upfront, let them know what company I chose, and that my answers would be longer due to having 3 groups, versus 1 group for each question. The good thing to note is that my submittal is easy to navigate, so even though longer, it should read very organized and efficiently.

This is a solid YES!  The transcript department put it under electives when it came in, and I e-mailed Jessica requesting her to apply it to 2D.

Sophia doesn't keep track of which classes you've started and dropped, except for their own internal records (you're only allowed to restart a class once, IIRC). So it's not going to show up on any transcripts. Still, I would suggest downloading and looking over the PDFs and maybe doing the "trial" first Challenge to see what you think of the course. As far as course texts and Touchstone requirements go, everything is fully available for viewing during the trial.

As for how much Touchstones impact your grades, that depends on the course. You can check the score report to see how the points are allocated, then do the math from there. Going longer is usually fine. (Depends on the grader, though.) As long as you get at least 50% on the Touchstone, assuming there are only 1 or 2 Touchstones, that usually works out to still getting 85-90% on the whole course.

Yeah, the try this class is the trial period. You're not actually enrolled until you click the "enroll now" button. Try the class, check out the PDFs, read the Touchstone requirements, then pull the trigger if you want to continue.

Thank you for this. Where did you find the "ID Form" that you sent in? I'm looking all over the umpi site and I'm not finding it.
