Strighterline Partners growing
#1
Is it me or is the list of colleges partnering with Straighterline growing again ?

It looks like there are 2 new partners:
Assumption College a Partner College - StraighterLine
Nazarene Bible College a Partner College - StraighterLine

So if you don't want to go to that school...can you get them transcribed somewhere and then transfer them later to another school? I'm not totally clear on how that works.

You can use Straigtherline and ACE if the college you want to attend accepts ACE credit recommendations you are cool.

Also FHSU will transcript some SL classes:

Economics I and II
Financial Acc.
Managerial Acc.
College Algebra

and then you can transfer them just as if you had attended Fort Hays.
The original idea of SL was to have colleges transcript their classes but seems they have changed the plan at least for now and they are focused on transfer partnerships.

That's cool about FHSU. I looked at their website but didn't see the answer to this: what do they charge to transcribe those credits and do you have to take a certain amount of classes there?

According to the Straighterline site the cost is still the $30 application fee College Transfer Credits Process - StraighterLine

I believe if you take more then one course from Straighterline and wait to have them sent together to FHSU the total FHSU charges would be $30.

Of course, please verify that is still the case.

FHSU does not charge to transcribe the credits. What FHSU charges is $30 application fee. To say it differently: you have to be a FHSU admitted student in order to have them trancript the SL classes.

And no you don't require to take any classes from FHSU. I have 15 FHSU credits and they all come from SL Classes. You can have the SL scores submitted one by one or all together, the cost will be the same.

Being new to this distance learning process I am sorry if this question sounds stupid. :p

Can you then transfer those credits to yet another college to use toward the degree? For example...can I take the SL courses, transfer them to a college that awards credits for them (we'll call that college #1)...then transfer my credits from college #1 to college #2 and get a degree at #2? Or could I even do that 3 or 4 times? Or does every college have to go back to the original source of the credits to determine if they accept them?

I assume that would only work if the college you transfer the SL credits to actually transcribe the credits as if you did work at their school?

The reason I ask is that on the way to a Bachelor's degree I would love to pick up an Associate's even if just for the sense of accomplishment. I could get a degree with the local community college that I already have some credits built up if I get 25% of my credits from them of the 64 needed for an Associate's degree...which is attainable for me. They said they likely would not recognize SL credits since SL is not regionally accredited. However, I know that I can transfer these credits to a RA school...but could they then be transfered to the community college after that? And then from the community college toward the Bachelor's degree after that?

I'm probably making this more confusing than it really is but I honestly don't quite understand how that works. :ack:

Well let me give you an example strictly using Straighterline classes.

You take the SL classes and have Ft Hays transcript them for you. You send that transcript to your community college and they accept those credits. What you just did was transfer Ft Hays credit to your Associates degree.

You finish your degree and now you want to move to your bachelors lets say you go to Excelsior College

Now you need to send Excelsior the Ft Hays trancript plus your Community College transcript and all those classes should transfer to Excelsior (or the college of your choice) for your bachelors degree.

I say should instead of will transfer because accepting transferred credits it is something based on the receiving school policy. But I dont think you would have any problem if you use Excelsior

Awesome! That is very helpful. I thank you for taking time to clear that up for me. It makes perfect sense.
