Strategic management tecep under review!
#81
Quote:Since you have my notes and feedback it should prove easier for you. But cramming cliff notes for an exam doesn't prepare you for the day your supervisor walks up to your cubicle and asks you to prepare a draft marketing or business plan on a product/company he is looking to purchase.
Haha, you're the one who didn't read my post brother. I said people can cram in any course(B&M, online or test out exam), whereas self-paced is the best learning environment for myself, as I've learned much more from it then regular classes. Nice personal attack by the way. The reason I have your notes is because I'm engaged, someone in the community recommend your notes and whilst reading the book is good it's always good to be prepared for the test. You yourself don't even just hand out the notes, people have to ask you for them, that takes some sort of initiative right?
Quote: Or, your manager could request a cost analysis on outsourcing a department/division. Or, he/she may want you to prepare a risk assessment on opening a satellite office in another town/state/country; would you even know where to begin?
With a competent mind, worst case scenario you can just google it.
But yes, this can be learned through reading books and testing yourself on the chapters, no need for a $1500 course.

Quote:Many have failed the TECEP exam without direction. Especially those who did not have any work experience that they could pull from to help craft the essay responses.
If people have failed the TECEP, they obviously have not invested enough time in understanding the concepts of Strategic management, whether that be through life experience, work experience, reading, videos etc.

Quote:If you have a degree in business, you would be expected to know basic skills and be able to quickly supplement that skill set by drilling down on company specific needs/goals while on the job. I am speaking from my own experience here. These are some of the reasons why certain employees can demand a higher pay scale, fast tracked promotions, receive bonuses and/or company perks while others could not. These examples are what sets employees apart and allows for quick movement within company ranks. Without the proper skill set you're dead weight and first impressions tend to stick.

Anecdotal experience is good, but it's just that, anecdotal. A counter anecdotal experience for example, is that a friend of mine majored in an irrelevant field and is now a marketing manager at Netlfix making 100K +

Did she learn the concepts from her BA? no. Did she learn research, writing, analyzing etc. Of course!
The rest was her own motivation and drive to learn things and she did so with her Bachelor's by starting as an intern. You're banking way too much on the fact that upper level courses(especially scheduled classes) give you everything you need in a business job. Whether people want to learn or just cram to get their bachelors is up to them. I choose to learn, and choose to do it at my own pace.
