Straighterline just raised their prices to give you "free" eTextbooks.

It appears Straighterline has bumped up their cost for courses by a few dollars, but now offer "free" eTextbooks.

I suppose this is nice since you will have instant access and not need to wait for books. However, I personally would rather have cheaper courses and buy used books off Ebay.

Well,

I managed to get mine for free.

Ten bucks isn't a deal stopper for me, and I am exceptionally miserly in things I don't enjoy. $149 is, I dunno. I guess around average for a course or a little less (naturally, not counting colleges). Where it shines is when you take two or three courses and can finish them in a month. And now you don't have to pay for three books, they are rolled up in the package.

Thanks for the heads up, though!

I noticed this too a bit sad because I shelled out 15.99$ for intro to comm book to have it when I was ready. But then noticed they dropped the price of Financial and Managerial accounting by 10$ each so I will still technically save an extra 10$. I'd really like to start getting these all out of the way but I want to fit all 4 into one month. I feel like I could do it even with taking 5 BM courses along with them. I have heard people say the Intro to Com took them about 3-4days to complete. I feel like I could complete Financial Accounting in 2-4days. I wish I knew the English assignments ahead of time because I would start them before signing up. Managerial Accounting would be the only course that probably took some real time commitment.

Every time that SL raises their prices. I simple do the comparison on how much it will cost to take the same courses in my local community college (which is
not expensive). Taking in account that with SL has many advantages (transportation, scheduling, other). It is obvious that SL still will come out ahead.

Very true. I bought my son physical copies of all texts for SL way ahead of time, so when he finishes up his last few courses he'll have physical copies to sit and read and then e-copies to refer to on tests. $10 to make the course a bit more convenient seems okay with me!
Here Researching for my son, who has done the following:
Community College: Intro to Philosophy, Fundamentals of IT, English Comp 1
Saylor: Intro to Business, Principles of  Marketing, Corporate Communication
Shmoop: US History 2 (WGU won't accept this)
ALEKS: Int. Algebra, College Algebra
Study.com: Personal Finance, Principles of Finance, HR Management, Global Business, Advanced Operations Management
Straighterline: US History 2, Environmental Science, US History, Microeconomics, Macroeconomics, English Comp 2, Principles of Management, Business Law, Business Ethics, Psychology, Organizational Behavior, Accounting 1,Communication, Managerial Accounting, Statistics
Ed4Credit: Managing Information Systems
Sophia: Project Management
WGU: Bachelors in HR Management

Second son is currently attending Penn Foster for his high school diploma, then on to Ashworth for An Associates in Criminal Justice

For the record, I do like how it's more convenient and SL is still much better then the "normal route". I just find it funny how companies will bump the prices up and then offer "discounts" or in this case "free" ebooks.

It's my hope they will do their research, and all lower costs even further to gain a competitive edge against their competitors... lol

Competition is good. I still remember when the TECEP price was $150 per credit ($450 per TECEP). Unless I am mistaken.

Since the ebooks were regularly in the $80 range, you're actually getting a BETTER deal than you were previously.

I agree, I think this is a better deal than what they had. Plus the open book exams are so much easier if you can search an ebook text rapidly.
