Straighterline Question
#1
Ok, so I have question for those who have multiples in the house using SL for credits, I know we have some. I set up an account last month and did my 3 courses. I canceled my subscription after I received my ACE transcript. Well, Thursday a charge shows up on my CC for SL. I go into my account and find they didn't cancel my subscription even though I clicked the cancel button and agreed to the little pop-up box. I called SL and they refuse to refund the fee. I don't need any other courses they offer. My son would like to try a course. Can I let him take some courses over the next few weeks under my account and have the credit applied to his transcript? How do we set this up? I just don't want to throw away $99. Can I process the cancellation now and use the service until the end of the billing period or do we need to wait until he finishes? I just don't want to end up paying another monthly fee. I can't find this info any where on their site and the person I was talking to about the refund was rather nasty so I didn't want to ask her any other questions. Thanks in advance for your help.

I'm not a genious, but I would think you could ask them to transfer your subscription to his name. So your account would be his. Did you get a cancelation number when you canceled? This is good information because I will be also canceling soon and will remember this. I have been screwed in the past so I always keep cancelation #'s for a month just in case. I would call them and ask them to transfer yours to him.

No, I didn't get a cancellation number, unless it was emailed and possibly ended up being deleted as spam. I clicked the cancel account in my account settings and I got the pop-up box explaining about the grades and verifying I wanted to cancel then I clicked to cancel and that was it. I never thought another thing about it until it showed up on my bank statement. I went back to my SL account, first time since I finished and sent my classes to ACE and EC and it showed they renewed it on 1/19 with another renew set for February. I called and was told sorry, we don't do refunds. I think that is crummy since it doesn't cost them any money if I'm not using their service or even logging onto their server using bandwidth! Live and learn. I will try to call about changing it to my son's name, although after the rudeness of the gal I talked to about the billing issue, I'm not looking forward to talking to them again! Thanks for the help, I just hope I can change it over to him and at least not waste the $99!

SL Team, obviously this is part of the problem, as your response clearly has nothing to do with my initial post! I wasn't trying to get a refund for my initial subscription. I did cancel my subscription for renewal more than 14 days prior to the bill date and that is why I was surprised at the rudeness of the rep. I talked to when I expressed my concern that I was charged for something that I had clearly canceled according to your policy! In fact, I canceled the subscription almost 3 weeks prior to the renewal date! Point of the matter is even when your stated policy was followed but my account was charged anyway.

this is part of the reason I don't love SL. I can't decide if they are too busy or apathetic, but the couple months we were subscribers, I experienced similar frustrations. They required too much "wheel squeaking" for simple help.

Our first issue, turned out, was solved by a member HERE in 2 seconds (ok, it was like 12 minutes after I posted lol....) But what was a simple problem due to us not navigating their system properly was routed and re-routed. After about 6 transfers (and the day before waiting for a "call back") I talked with one of the higher-ups. He was a) annoyed by my call b) condescending and c) unfamiliar with his product. In frustration, I posted here and the problem was solved.

I know there are SL fans here, and I don't "hate" the company or the products enough to even care, I'm neutral. I guess they meet a need, but they are not good enough (yet?) at this game for me to go so far as "suggesting" them to someone. Maybe after they work out their newb kinks it'll be a different story. For now, and for the money, I'm still very unimpressed.

Jennifer, Wow, a higher up was rude too. I'm sorry but when you can't be bothered or concerned about customer service when your customers are the ones paying your bills, I think that speaks volumes. An entry level rep being paid min. wage I expect to treat customers poorly, but not supervisors or management. I agree and won't be recommending them after my experience. Now that another member has posted about them not using SSL to secure personal data, I won't be having my son use them either.
