Straighterline Nutrition Course = TESC Natrual Science or Free Elective?

I am interested in the nutrition course at Straighterline, but am wondering if it will count as a free elective or if it would fulfill one of the natural sciences requirements at TESC?

Straighterline's site shows:

Nutrition, just like Health are not included as general education areas which leaves it as a free elective course.

One option would be to pre-plan the course. You might be able to get it accepted as this course or maybe something else:

You'd have to attempt to show an adviser or someone in the dean's office that the course more closely matches a course that you could use. I would guess they're pretty set since they have that published transfer guide but it's always worth a shot.

Why won't Pharmacology from straighterline count toward anything at TESC ?

Even though Pharmacology is listed as a 200 level course in the PLA guide, TESC is probably basing this decision off of the ACE recommendation for those courses:

Pharmacology I (PHARM101)
Credit Type: Course
ACE Course Number: 0021
Organization: StraighterLine
Credit Recommendation: In the vocational level/certificate category, 3 semester hours in Pharmacology (9/11).

Pharmacology II (PHARM102)
Credit Type: Course

I've never seen a written policy on this, but I can tell you that I had two credits denied because ACE recommended them as "vocational" credits. My CC took them and TESC wouldn't. I didn't need for anything but thought it was a little odd. Based on the ACE recommendation I'm not sure an appeal of any kind would help but as with Nutrition you can always ask.

Unless TESC has said otherwise in a college catalog (such as for CLEP & DSST), they typically at least follow the level (vocational, lower, upper) that this guide gives (at least in my experience). This is also helpful for people not attending TESC, COSC, or EC since many schools accept ACE credits (once they figure out what they are). I received some credits from a former employer so check out the other listings if you have worked for one of them, just note that advising has told me they do not accept vocational credits.
