Straighterline English

I've been reading lots of posts on Straighterline and haven't seen too much recently and wanted to ask what your thoughts are on the English Comp I & II straighterline course. I don't work well under pressure and I feel that I would stress too much taking the CLEP. I want to do the straighterline courses for this and wanted to hear what everyones take on it is. I know it's alot of writing and quizes so any info you'd like to share would be greatly appreciated. Also, do you recommend purchasing the textbook?

I started a similar topic called "Straighterline English Comp I Essays Advice/Info" on 9/6. Scroll down the page until you find this headline. The great folks here were extremely helpful in providing information regarding this class.

Also, do a search for this topic here and on Google - there is a wealth of info from those who have taken both Comp I and II from Straighterline.

I have not signed up for the class as of yet, but have been studying the textbook, taking notes, printing out the Straighterline syllabus and class info, looking at some YouTube videos regarding the various types of essays, etc.

I'm a big believer in being overprepared before I dive into the deep end of the pool, but that's just me.

I would whole-heartedly recommend the straighterline english composition courses above any other they offer (less prerequisites for filling major components for particular majors).

The structural and procedural techniques I learned through these two courses have seriously paid dividends, academically. Seemed like such a hassle at the time, but ultimately massively benefited me academically and professionally. Combined with the business communications course, these are incredibly transferable skills.

I just signed up for Eng Comp I and need to get started. Any suggestions on where to start? I've been searching on here and still confused. I don't plan on purchasing the book. Should I? Would signing up for instantcert help with this course?

I didn't know about InstantCert when I took the SL English 1 (and 2) classes so I didn't use it. Although, I did buy the book and I opened it once; instead I used the study guides SL provided. I did well in English classes when I was in school so I was comfortable going with the textbook. But, if you do not feel 110% comfortable going it on your own then get the book as it can be found used on amazon for very little. I found the writing to be fairly easy, but I really valued the feedback I got on my submissions and I feel that the assignments got me back into the swing of writing.

Just login to SL, click on the first task and get to work...your not reinventing the wheel, it's a pretty straightforward learning method.

You don't need to sign up with IC .... you can do it without the book (though I got the book for like $10 on amazon)...just go get started...they walk you through the whole process.

You can do it....jump in!

thanks everyone! I have completed 8 out of the 14 quizzes and have a B+ so far. I'll start the writing assignments this weekend! So far so good. I'll update as I go.
