I was wondering if anyone is planning on getting a degree through Thomas Edison for Journalism and how they are planning on getting the required upper level classes for that degree.
Journalism anyone?

I know that humanities allows journalism classes as well as literature to fulfill the requirements. There is one TECEP for journalism Introduction to News Reporting (JOU-110-TE) and Independent Study in Idaho has Jamm 265 Principles of Advertising Independent Study in Idaho.
There are probably some other sources but this is not going to be a fully test out experience.
BSBA CIS from TESC, BA Natural Science/Math from TESC
MBA Applied Computer Science from NCU Enrolled at NCU in the PhD Applied Computer Science
I wanted to major in journalism with TESC but the same problems convinced me to go the test out route with the BA/LS. UMass online has a journalism certificate that I think would satisfy some of the requirements but I never verified with TESC. It is surprisingly hard to find journalism courses online there are just a few bachelors programs and a couple of masters programs.
EDIT: I took that Intro. to News Reporting TECEP by the way. It wasn't hard if you know the basics of writing a news story and google some basic journalism vocabulary. The entire test was hand written, no multiple choice. BA/Liberal Studies, TESC 2011 AAS/Applied Electronic Studies, TESC 2010

blu2blu Wrote:. What if you're coming from scratch and don't know much about the news at all. Did you use some sort of book as a guide. How do you know what to learn for the test if you have no guide? Like at least for CLEPs we have CLEP books and stuff to prepare us.

TECEPs are known to be very centered around one or two textbooks. Go to the Intro. to News Reporting TECEP page and click on the test description, in there you will find an excellent description of the test along with some sample questions and study recommendations.
I have experience writing news articles as a public affairs representative for my unit but very little in the way of formal training, I do seem to have a talent for it though. I think with the textbooks you would be more than prepared but you could honestly get away with google studying on this one. It might be better for you to go ahead and take the actual JOU-110 class through TESC though if you are serious about journalism. You will need the skills developed in that class to tackle more advanced journalism courses. Thanks. I will be looking more into it once I get closer to needing specific classes for Journalism. I currently have my plan all set out as to what exams and classes to take for Journalism, but you are right, it is hard to find online classes. I am only missing 6 upper level credits (of where to get them) that I need in order to acheive my goal.
