Alright, I'm a little over halfway through my free course from Sophia, so I figured I'd give a quick review on the way it's constructed and how well it seems to teach while people can still sign up for a free course.
The graded portions are broken out in Challenges (1pt per question), and Milestones (2pt per question). The Challenges vary between straight fill-in-the-blank questions and short scenarios that you need to identify what concept was demonstrated. The Milestones, at least to the point I'm at, have all been multiple choice. You have to be careful when filling out the Challenges, as they are looking for the EXACT wording they used, omitting or adding a word will cause the answer to be wrong, but you do have multiple attempts per question to alleviate this issue.
Study material is broken down by section and subsection, and consists of videos and transcripts of some of the videos. These identify the specific concepts and ideas that will be covered in the Challenges and Milestone for that section. Personally, I find the transcripts more useful as a quick refresher prior to taking the milestone, as the slides from the videos normally contain graphs or other visual aids that help the concepts sink in, at least for me.
As a reminder, if anyone is still considering signing up for a free course, you must do so before the 31st, but the course itself will be available for 60 days.
