Sophia Course Completion Deadline
#1
So my procrastinating 13 year old has waited until his course deadline of 4/24, yes TOMORROW and has not completed his course yet. He is close, with 3 challenges, 2 milestones and the final, so 3 milestones in Human Biology.

My question is this. Does that deadline mean end of 4/23 @ 23:59 or does it include all of 4/24 until 23:59? Clock is ticking!!!

I THINK it's 60 days from when you start it, going by the clock and not the calendar. For instance, if he started the class at 4pm then his access will close at 4pm. I'm not 100% sure on that account, though. And everyone's gone home at Sophia for the weekend so you can't even message to ask for an extension. You may be able to get an automatic extension, though. IIRC, there should be a button for something like "request an extension" and then you have to sign a pledge that you'll do the work and check in with Sophia regularly. Unless he's already gotten an extension, in which case he's out of luck.

This is his second extension, so no more. Well I have him working on it now as if tonite is the END. If he would do this with the dedication of his online gaming, he'd have a Doctorate already.

Ouch.

Well, it can be hard to concentrate on school sometimes. Especially when there are games to play! Not saying that he should be procrastinating, but I do understand it.

I know. He is only a kid being a kid. He is focused now as the prospect of having to start all over is scarier than I am apparently. lol

That's great for a 13 year old, especially when it's Human Biology. Biology classes aren't as easy as the other classes Sophia.org offers, but most if not all of their course are very doable and straightforward. Good job for him in getting those first 3 credits in!

Thank you. This forum has showed us the way!!!! I am forever grateful. I think we will try College Readiness next and then Environmental Science.

Just FYI College Readiness does not really transfer into another college.  It is supposed to be just a helpful course to start preparing for college.  I would personally skip it and take a different course that would be worth the effort.  Also, several here had problems with the English on Sophia including my daughter.  She finished everything else on Sophia very quickly, but the English was difficult for several reasons.

Great job on the Biology.  He sounds really smart, and maybe just operates better on a deadline.  I have 3 kids taking courses right now to attend TESU.  My sons are on their last course, and my daughter has taken most of the Sophia courses, 27 credits at our local university, and CLEPed 30 credits.  She is trying to graduate @ 19.  I am just letting you know it can be done.  Make sure you get your 24 credits from a regionally accredited college, and your son can attend TESU earlier than 21.  Your son has a wonderful start!
