Hmm, I wonder what went wrong... being married for 27 years and they are calling it quits...
Think of all the charities they helped and donations they made for so many causes, so sad...

Sometimes divorce is the right thing to do but I'm going to be very disappointed if Bill starts showing up at public events with some 20 year old woman on his arm. It's so cliche.

I could not care less about this, and can't even figure out why anyone except maybe their kids would.

Fair. I can see why people wouldn't care.
But this kind of a big deal because it will likely be the biggest divorce settlement ever (or least one of the biggest). But more importantly the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation is one of the largest philanthropic organizations in the world. This could have a major impact on their non profit, which has am impact all over the globe

First - it's still not a big deal, because it's not like "the biggest divorce settlement ever" has any impact on anyone.
Second, they said they will continue to work together on the foundation. And, even if they did not, either one could still fund this with their half of the money.

I’d say both will still be very involved in philanthropy.

I suppose I just think of it as an example of how money doesn't buy happiness
