Some questions about the TESC process
#1
I'm going to be finishing up my testing soon. Probably around February. So TESC is getting close and I have no idea how this whole process is going to work... I've been earning credits towards a history degree btw. So I just had a few questions I was wondering if some of you could answer. I've been searching through the forums here but haven't found anything real clear. I hope you don't mind if they're stupid questions being asked again... : )

Is War and American Society required by TESC for a History degree?

Is the Liberal Arts Capstone also required now?

Or can I completely test out of my entire degree? No classes or anything from TESC?

Are those classes given at specific times? Or can I start the class at any date?

How much would it cost then, if I take the classes at TESC? And how much if I don't take any classes?

If I were to take those classes, how long are they? Is it 12 weeks each?

So then when should I contact TESC and get it all started? How long should I expect it to take, between enrolling, transferring credits, getting into the classes, and then finishing up whatever else is left to do?

That's all I can think of now. Thanks!

The answers to most of your questions are on TESC's website.

Thomas Edison State College: History

Click on the class you want to take and the website will show you all of the start dates. Courses are 12 weeks long.

You should test out of as many courses as you can before you enroll. It takes TESC around 6 weeks to evaluate credits. I can't tell you how much time it takes to get into classes because I didn't take any there. I finished my degree before the capstone requirement.

The academic calendar shows when registration is and gives the schedule for courses. It is updated to give info until the June semester:
Thomas Edison State College: Undergraduate Academic Calendar

The same classes are typically offered each month (with some exceptions), just wait until the dates are closer and the info will update on the registration site.
My completed "non-traditional" credits include 27 credits from CLEP, 30 credits from DSST, 6 credits from ALEKS, 19 credits from FEMA courses including PDS, 3 credits from NFA courses, 10 credits from ACE Workplace Training, 3 credits from a TESC TECEP exam, and 3 credits from a TESC PLA course.

I am not sure if War & American Soc. is required but you do need to have 18 upper level history courses and I am not sure there are enough without that course.

If you are planning to finish within one year you should send transcripts and apply for an evaluation now. That cost $75 and can take as long as 8 weeks. Once you have that evaluation you can see what else yopu will still need and decide when to enroll.

Yes the Capstone is now required you should be able to test out of all the other requirements.

Classes start every month and run 12(some might be 16) weeks.

Once you send your Tuition for one year (must be paid in one lump sum) you can enroll in classes. Enrollment usually is for classes startin in 2 months.

Good Luck.

I'm a history major and I think I can answer some of these; someone please correct me if I'm wrong!

1. War and American Society is not required

2. Liberal Arts Capstone is required

3. Yes, but then you wouldn't have a GPA

4. See answers on this thread

5. Without classes, there's a $75 application fee and $280 graduation fee...anything else I'm missing?

Thank you so much everyone! Ok, so it looks like my plan now is:

Testing now through next spring

Apply in Feb. 2013 (Is apply the right word? It's when I'll send my transcripts to TESC and see that my degree template works.)

Enroll in June (Because the price goes up in July, correct?)

War and American Society class from Sept.-Nov.

Break for December

Capstone from Jan.-March

Graduate Smile

Sound like a good plan?
