Advice on remaining courses (BACS AND BSBA CIS)
#1
Hello everyone!

I'm working towards dual degrees in BA Computer Science and BSBA Computer Information Systems (TESU). English isn't my first language, so I'm hoping you'll bear with me if some parts of my post seem unclear. I've attached my evaluations so far, and I'm grateful for any advice you can provide based on those.

Keep in mind that I'm currently enrolled in TESU (I have registered for the Medical Terminology TECEP) as a BS CIS degree seeking student, so the BA CS evaluation might not be 100% accurate.

I haven't yet applied for an ACEI official evaluation for my XAMK IVGC certificate, which shows 27 ECTS credits. However, due to the office closure in August, my Transcript of Records (TOR) currently only shows 25 ECTS credits. I'm not sure if this 2 ECTS difference matters a lot, but since I need to get my credits evaluated asap (and I'm guessing ACEI will only accept the TOR, not the certificate), I'm thinking the 25 ECTS should be okay.

Right now, I'm in the process of getting Identification to enrol in Discrete Math and Operating System courses at Metropolia. Don't worry about Business Law and English Composition I and II which look like they're missing - I've finished these, but there were some problems with the Credly badge, so I've sent a new transcript.

For Civic Engagement, I'm thinking about taking the US Government course from Sophia, and for the additional Social Science course, maybe Introduction to Sociology, also from Sophia. If there are any faster options, I'd love to hear about them.

For the CIS AOS UL requirement, I believe I need to take Business 303: Management Information Systems from Study.com. Can anyone confirm this?

I'm hoping the remaining elective credits will be covered by the IVGC credits. Is that correct?

I'm thinking about signing up for a flat tuition term at Thomas Edison State University in August. I plan to take CIS-3510 Software Engineering, PLA-1000, SOS-1100 Information Literacy and the two capstones. But I have a question about the two capstone courses. My understanding is that I need 100 credits applied to both of my degrees before I can register for these, so I need to reach that amount before the term starts. Can anyone confirm that I can't register for the capstones halfway through the term? Sorry if that's a basic question - just want to be sure.

My aim is to finish all of this by December because I'm thinking about applying for a Masters program, and the applications start early next year. So, I think registering for the August term will help me reach my December graduation goal.

I might be forgetting other things that need to be pointed out.. Any advice or guidance you can give would be really helpful. Thanks for your time and any help you can offer!

You could take American Govt at TESU instead of the PLA 3 credit course.

If you take Business 303: Management Information Systems, that will apply to both degrees, helping you reach 100 quicker.

You only need 15 RA credits outside TESU if you are taking 15 credits worth of TESU courses.  So if you have 25 from XAMK, then you don't need any more from XAMK.

Operating Sytems at Study.com is a fast course you could do in 1-3 days at Study.com. Discrete math can take 20-40 hours at Study.com

You do need 100 credits in each degree before applying to take the capstone. If you are short of 100 credits, you can ask for an exception which may or may not work.

25 ECTS are NOT the same as 25 US credits. You need at least 30 ECTS to ensure that you have 15 US credits from TESU + 15 RA-equivalent credits. 25 ECTS may only be 12 US credits. You could take a TECEP exam for the extra 3 credits. Or just get another set of ECTS from XAMK. XAMK will take longer, but will be cheaper if you wait and evaluate everything together.
In progress:
TESU - BA Computer Science; BSBA CIS; ASNSM Math & CS; ASBA

Completed:

Sophia (so many), The Institutes (old), Study.com (5 courses)
ASU: Human Origins, Astronomy, Intro Health & Wellness, Western Civilization, Computer Appls & Info Technology, Intro Programming
Strayer: CIS175, CIS111, WRK100, MAT210

TESU does not work on the traditional American semester system - they have 12 week terms which start the first Monday of each month. So even if you can't get in for August, you could do September instead.

You do need 100cr towards each degree, and you also need most of your AoS credits done before they'll let you in the capstone. They won't normally give a waiver for that, but like I said, it's not a huge deal, so don't get too caught up in the start date.

They way you have your file in there, I can't access it and actually see it, and have no way to blow it up. So you might want to save it another way that's easy for anyone to pull up and look at. (I have a Mac).

Whenever I try to upload the PNGs the page will crash. Are these links okay? I'm hosting the images online.

@whitenight... So, you're using XAMK as the foreign RA credits, then topping it off with 15 RA residency credits? Good plan! You can take the 15 RA credits to finish off the degree, 2 capstones, cornerstone, and any other two courses such as e-packs or anything that may duplicate what you currently have, it's used for quick residency credits and doesn't need to apply to the degrees. You should complete the rest of these with what has been recommended on the WIKI, use Study.com for the bulk of the remaining credits for the degree requirements.

Thanks a lot for all the guidance !!   I've decided to take "Computer Science 105: Introduction to Operating Systems," "Business 303: Management Information Systems," and "Sociology 101: Intro to Sociology" via Study.com. Also, I'll give Discrete Maths a shot at Metropolia (once I've got my ID sorted). But if that doesn't pan out, Study.com is my backup. For the Civic engagement bit, I'm leaning towards US Govt on Sophia, but might pivot to American Govt at TESU, replacing one of my initial TESU course selections:

- CIS-3510 Software Engineering (3 credits)
- SOS-1100 Information Literacy (3 credits)
- Two CAPSTONES courses (6 credits)
- CIS-107 Computer Concepts (3 credits)

As for RA credits, I understand that I might need to add another XAMK course. After completing it, I'd get its ECTS along with IVGC's 27 ECTS evaluated (I know I'll have to cover the costs separately). This will be after August 6, as XAMK Pulse Studies is not reviewing coursework until then. Any suggestions for another XAMK course?

Finally: if I don't manage to have 100 credits for both degrees by July 28 and can't make the August enrollment but have to wait for the September term (in order to take all 15 credits at once and pay the Flat tuition), could I realistically wrap up all coursework by November 1st in order to graduate in December? Is that too much of a stretch?

No, the last term you can use for Dec graduation is August. The Sep term means you'd have to settle for March graduation.
