Global English?
#1
A coworker remarked about her 40 page paper due by the end of the semester which is to be written in Global English. This is not in anyway acknowledging the English Language as a global language, but the structure of the paper is to be in Global English. What classes have I been missing? She said writing in Global English makes it easier to be read by computer? OK, I'll admit it....I'm missing the boat on this one. Can someone explaing this to me?

More and more schools are using computers to grade written essays. The programming algorithm used to grade the papers cannot distinguish culture differences in vocabulary usage of different English speaking countries which, in turn, may cause a drop in test scores by the program that grades the essay.

An interesting read on this topic if you are interested.

I believe that most of us from the US on this forum were taught "Standard Edited American English" or something to that effect.

Interesting link thank you! I should have specified that this is for a Masters program. She had to take a class in how to write Global English last semester. With spell check, grammar check, zillions of plagiarism computer checkers, and even computer formatting for APA etc. why in the world would a Masters program need papers in Global English? I enjoy a good academic read. Shall I look forward to the dumbing down of academic research writing as well?
