Austin-BeatCancerB17 - Needed Quick Emergency UMPI BLS GEC+Electives Degree Plan
#1
Hey again all!

So my college plans are finalized, UMPI into UIU but why I'm posting this quick emergency thread is to prevent

potentially wasting $690+ today -

Using:
my credits from my unofficial transcripts attached
(I’ve edited name/birthday/sensitive information out)

.docx   Unofficial Transcripts - Mt San Antonio.docx (Size: 35.66 KB / Downloads: 8)

Can we put together a quick UMPI BLS GEC+ Electives Degree Plan (Education Studies)

TL: DR
I was just notified I need to make a decision by later today with Sterling College's Summer courses that fill some UL gaps for the SocSci degree at UIU I'm doing after this one at UMPI - whereas before I thought I had until the 9th of May. But I may not need to do them at Sterling as if I still need electives at UMPI I'll do all I can there (mostly UL history courses.)

Full Picture in case anyone wanted to know:

--
I've tried it on my own over the last four hours as per our forum link: https://www.degreeforum.net/mybb/Thread-...ivalencies)
before bothering anyone here, to complete the GEC+electives and am literally now at the point of trying to reverse engineer my courses that are unlisted into CSU classes for each CSU and trying that way.

Whereas you all could probably take one glance and know – this class goes here, that one goes there, but its better to put it here as an UL elective cause it’s a 300 level – take a Sophia for this instead or use this class - etc. and do in 5 minutes what is unsuccessfully taking me hours.
I am no longer making progress and fading fast. (it’s bloody 4:23am) and I need to make a decision when I wake up pretty quick regarding Sterling - thing is i might already have everything I need - i.e. all gen ed and electives met - at which point i would do sterling for some of the specific courses done at Upper Iowa - or if i still have some electives left to go at UMPI I'll do them there and only take one or two at Sterling. But i need to know by today.

I’m posting now as I need of everyone’s unique and specialized services, and rather urgently as I have a deadline  (today) that I thought was the 9th of May to pay for summer courses (upfront) at a college that have UL classes that I need for my next degree after that UMPI BLS above that are only offered in summer (now) for one month terms (awesome), (for instance: HI304 Civil War Era (3 credits) because Ill be finishing the UMPI BLS most definitely before next summer lol
(the courses in question I have to decide and pay for today are from Sterling College, a tiny middle of nowhere HLC accredited Christian 4 year recommended by @Rachel83az brilliant recommendation btw, thank you extraordinarily.)

its perfect actually and doing them all (potentially 6) saves me close to 6k at the college I have lined up right after I finish the above UMPI BLS degree. These two very specific degrees allow me to bypass very hard tests to gain entry into an elementary and then high school teaching credential programs).

- I need to see the completed UMPI BLS GEC + Electives degree plan above so I can confidently decide if I even need to take the courses at Sterling because I can just do them as electives at UMPI instead. (the idea is to potentially double dip classes to then transfer them into Upper Iowa college for a 2nd degree in (Social Science) (recommended by @Dfrecore – (the absolute goddess) of course you’re a goddess too Rachel Wink ).

Thank you all for anyone who assists, I hope dearly I can wake up and have some emergency assistance but by no means am I expecting anything. Seriously. Thanks for everything so far everyone so far from my main thread: https://www.degreeforum.net/mybb/Thread-...-this-Plan
I actually have master lists now and will be putting together a concise thread after my academic journey is completed to help specifically prospective CA teachers J

Cheers! <3

Sterling is pretty strict about letting you take courses without having some pre-reqs already done. Even though I already have a bachelor's degree, they would not allow me to take an UL History course until I had taken World Civ I & II. Per your private message, I'm going to guess that they won't allow you to register for your course unless you have US History I & II complete. Via an RA school for sure, maybe the CLEP exams, but definitely not ACE (SDC, Sophia).

Oh well that solves that.

When anyone had a moment I do still need an UMPI GEC plan + how many elective credits I already have to see the remainder. I want to hit the ground running now and start and finish everything before the next UMPI term begins.

But yeah good catch Df, I should have caught that, I even read they had a prereq when I first looked at them a week or so ago. I don't think you all realize just how valuable you all are.

I would never have thought to check if they took ACE.

I'm just doing so much all night it's easy to miss a small vital detail when tired.

You all have saved me from so much disappointment , so much time and so much money, absolute blessing to go on here first.

Yeah, so even if I'd wanted to, and took world civ I and II with them, they're UL summer courses are offered at the same time during the same 2nd term, so I wouldn't be able to take them.

Oh well, would have saved a pretty penny, but all the rest of the courses I can at least do through SDC, SL.

Thanks all.

Oh and did I post the degree plan request in the wrong thread? Apologies if I did , I can delete this and move this to the proper thread.

Upper Iowa University Wink

recommended by Df,

I've confirmed they're actively partnered with Sophia, Straighterline, Study.com and Onlinedegree.com (but do you expect anything less from Dfrecore? Wink

https://uiu.sophia.org/
https://www.straighterline.com/colleges/...niversity/
https://study.com/college/school/upper-i...rsity.html
https://www.onlinedegree.com/full-transfer-guide/

8 week sessions, year round enrollment, 2 class maximum per 8 weeks (sadly) (waiting on a reply from them on how/if you can take more)

78 transfer credit from 2 years
usual 90 from 4 years

I'm finding out if ACE credits count towards the 90.

UIU catalog with all courses and policies:
https://uiu.edu/wp-content/uploads/UIU-2...062921.pdf

Ctrl+F
social science core courses
I'm doing their concentration in "General Social Science" so as to allow me to pick and choose which classes I want. Its pretty awesome.

National University would have been better for me (CA college= CA grants) but those monkeys don't offer SocSci as a standalone degree.

UIU is where I'm going for my SocSci after UMPI BLS

I never would have found any of this without you guys.

the idea is to use as many electives as I can at UMPI to count towards the core and possible major requirements at UIU (hence why I needed a UMPI only degree plan) I need to see how many elective slots I still have left, to start custom building my electives at UMPI to hopefully apply towards UIU.

And yes, i already know because of this wonderful forum, that apparently having a completed bachelors degree can change how transfer credit works, especially for major requirements, at some universities, so I'm currently waiting on their answer to see once I have an official bachelors, what classes will then transfer in and if I have to redo the classes.
(but id still take them as electives at UMPI because then I can breeze through UIU easier.

For UMPI, you need:
Composition II - take at UMPI
CREATIVITY - if they count ID-10 Intro to Interior Design here, then you're good, otherwise take this at UMPI
BIOLOGICAL SCIENCE - I think they'll count NF-15 Nutrition I: Sci of Nutrition, otherwise you'd need to take Bio at Sophia
DIVERSE WORLD VIEWS - they MAY count NF 28 Cultural and Ethnic Foods, otherwise you'd need Sociology at Sophia
HISTORY - take a history course at Sophia
MORALS & ETHICS - take Ethics at Sophia

Everything else you can take at UMPI. IF you want to take Project Management at Sophia, to free up your time to take more UL at UMPI (because you need a certain amount of UL), that's not a bad idea.

So, go to Sophia, sign up, and start on courses in this order:
History - for sure
Ethics - for sure
Sociology - if needed
Human Bio - if needed
Project Management - if wanted

I'd apply and see what they bring everything in as before taking unneeded courses - you have a LOT of credit, so no need to waste time wondering, just let them tell you what's needed.

Wow. I can't thank you enough, I never would have thought of ethnic foods being a diverse world views course.

Seriously.

I'll actually email this to my UMPI admissions person and see what they can do.

Enrolling very soon in all of these once UMPI confirms what I need, and already enrolled in a U.S. History tonight!

So the courses I have left over would be considered elective courses then?

Now I just need to figure out if I have any UL courses. It was mentioned before that it looked like I didn't have many UL classes,

I'll go and try and figure out which are above 300 - is there a way you can see easier? I wonder if it's somehow listed on my transcripts..

Otherwise I'll just have to go class by class I think - on Chaffey and Mt San Antonio's Website unless you can recommend something more efficient.

Either way, I'm pretty much almost there everyone, once this is all ironed out, I'm hitting the ground at 110% (I have an extensive word document going right now on double dipping classes with all the information you've all provided. I wish there was some way to compensate you all). Its very exciting for me and I have *a lot* of work ahead. Glad I took these few months to iron it all out, its pretty convoluted in CA with becoming a teacher the route I'm going by waiving my CSETS. 2 degrees, 2 teaching credentials and a masters to start, Thanks and cheers everyone!

It's prob not, but worth checking

Yes, you have a LOT of electives

No, your courses are from CC, which generally are not UL

You don't have a lot of upper levels, but it does look like you'd have an easy time with a BLS. I'd recommend the history ones, with Dr. Zaborney at UMPI because his classes and feedback allows you to accelerate better.

Thank you for that Godly catch, @Ashkir

Chaffey Transcripts - EDITED lol - sensitive info out
(When I uploaded I was looking at a snipping tool of the transcripts and thought I uploaded that.. (the two were right next to each other) it was like 5am, id been doing this for 6 hours that night *palms face*

.pdf   EDITED - Chaffey_ Unofficial_Transcripts.pdf (Size: 5.52 KB / Downloads: 6)

Mt San Antonio Transcripts, EDITED

.docx   Unofficial Transcripts - Mt San Antonio.docx (Size: 35.66 KB / Downloads: 1)

(for reference)

You guys are so great. I honestly don't know how you do it. There's so many threads opening every day, and you all are seemingly everywhere at once. We all really appreciate you guys.

@Ashkir which classes do you see that are UL?

Also your personal resume site is beautifully made bro, love the design. Clean, unique, articulate, efficient.

And thank you for the Dr. Zaborney reco, I was all over the forum last night and saw him come up a few times, I hope he teaches most all of the history classes, I'll search the forums now for whose an easy grader for psych

History and Psych will be filling most all my UL electives for sure.

and @Dfrecore

that was my thought as well, I probably never would have thought of requesting that particular class to cover that particular field, along with most of your other recommendations, you may have saved me months. I'm pretty good on the phone, not so great in text as tone doesn't convey, so I should be able to get them to at least consider all of your options.

all in all, excellent catch Ashkir, and Df - your recommendations are invaluable.

if anyone has any specifically good threads to recommend I check out, about UMPI, scholarships, getting degree's quickly, building degree plans, anything you deem useful, please post them here or if we're not allowed to do that, PM me anytime and Ill check them out with a quick thank you. I'm trying to read as much as I can, now that I have my plan generally laid out - not looking to comment much on them, just absorb as much as possible

Cheers and thanks again all! <3
