Back to school after for profit debacle
#1
Long story short, I was attending a for-profit and found out after completion that they lost their accreditation. Now looking for some guidance after being a lurker for some time. My long term goal is a bachelors in IT, short term possibly an associates. Listed below are old credits form a CC from 2004 to 2005 and I just finished up all of ALEKS math ACE accredited class. Would TESU accept my old credits towered an AAS in Electronic then apply that to WGU IT BS? I also have A+, Net+, and HIT-001. Any input would be appreciated.

Hello... Please tell us which school lost its accreditation and for those courses below, which institution did it come from?
My suggestion is going to apply to your school of choice (TESU or WGU) and see if they can apply those credits to your degree.
If there is no need to get the AA, you may skip it and directly go for the WGU BSIT instead. Get all your general education credits first.
You want to have as many of the general education credits done before you transfer to any of those two schools mentioned.

Did they lose accreditation after you graduated? If so, then you still earned a degree from an accredited school.

Sound advice, thank you. The for-profit was Cleveland Institute of Electronics which came highly recommended from another degree forum. The courses I listed are from a local community college. Moving forward, I am going to start English Comp from SL next week.

I was about 90% done when they lost it.

The other forum is much more friendly to for-profits. They aren't as popular here.

If CIE was nationally accredited rather than regionally accredited, then TESU will not accept your credits. Excelsior might accept your credits. WGU will accept your credits if they apply to the program.

Another option would be to finish an associates at Penn Foster and then transferring to WGU.

There is not a lot of point in going for an AAS at TESU, and then switching to WGU for the IT degree. It won't save you money, and will probably cost you MORE. You would have to do the Gen Ed & Core/AOS courses, and then take the Associates Capstone ($1500), and then pay $2000+ for the Residency Waiver. Minimum $3500 plus any courses, just for the AAS. And then, WGU probably wouldn't take the AAS as a block transfer, so might require MORE courses, plus a minimum of $2890 for at least 1 term at WGU. That's a minimum of $6390, and maybe even $9280 if you need 1 terms.

If your ultimate goal is a BSIT, then I would just straight for WGU. They will take your A+ and Net+ certs as well (TESU will not). Plus you will get more certs along the way... You will pay for any courses you want to take ahead of time for Gen Ed's (probably the same cost as TESU), and then pay $2890 for 6 months at WGU, where you might actually be able to get your BS. If not, you might have to take a second term. So between $2890-$5780 for a BSIT and a bunch of Certs thrown in for free.
