School charges $65/per test...
#1
Have you guys ever heard of this? Ok, I took my 2 Clep's (passed both). Paid the college board the money, and the testing center. Newberry College gets my scores and charges me $65/per test. I went to their office, and apparently, they charge this fee to give me the credits. I took summer school too, and they did not charge me for those. Which I found odd. They said that it was in the handbook, I checked, but all it mentions is the fee of $72...which is what the college board charges. All they have to do is enter them into the computer, which is the same thing they do for the summer school classes. I just wanted to know if anyone at their school did this too. Thanks

That's strange. I never heard of that. Is that the school you're working toward a degree at? If not, I wouldn't worry about applying for credit there. If it is the school, could you apply the cleps to a community college and then transfer them in that way? I've heard that called "laundering credits" before, but not all schools allow it.

I was able to apply all my cleps and dsst exams to SIU at no cost to me outside of sending the transcript. Good luck!

It does appear to be on their website, see the "other fee" section of the above link.

Maybe I didn't understand the original poster. Is it that you're being charged to have CLEP scores sent to the school in addition to the exam fee? Or is it just the exam fee?

Here's what the website says that peace123 posted regarding CLEP exams:

"Credit by Examination Fee (CLEP)— Students taking examinations under this program will pay $65 for each examination. "

It seems like it's an examination fee, so if they are trying to charge it to you for just entering a score from your transcript, then something's wrong. It wouldn't be the first time someone was wrong. Smile Hopefully you get it resolved soon. That really would be a financial pain to basically pay for CLEP exams twice!

I just wanted to add that I just noticed that the link I posted seems to reference 2004 information.

Find another testing site and have the results sent to them the be posted!

Previous college charged $25, now found one that only charges $15 testing fee whether CLEP or DSST.

Shop around.

Their school appears to have a fee to accept the credits onto their transcript towards the degree itself, I don't believe they are talking about a service charge to actually take the test.

I was actually curious about this when I was looking into TESC. Their little planning calculator was showing an $85/credit hour charge for any external credits that were brought in throughout the course of enrollment. I'm not sure if this is the case or not, but the idea really turned me off from them.
Allow me to introduce myself. My name is Wile E. Coyote, genius. I am not selling anything nor am I working my way through college, so let's get down to basics: you are a rabbit and I am going to eat you for supper. Now don't try to get away, I am more muscular, more cunning, faster and larger than you are, and I am a genius, while you could hardly pass the entrance examinations to kindergarten, so I'll give you the customary two minutes to say your prayers.

Bachelor of Science in PsychoRabbitology degree
Master of Education with a specialty in Rabbit-specific destructive munitions (or eLearning & Technology, I forget which)
Doctor of Philosophy in Wile E. Leadership with an area of specialty in Acme Mind Expansion - 2017 Hopefully

Yea, they are charging the fee JUST to enter the stuff in from the transcript (which is very odd that they do not charge it for summer classes..same thing). Also, I think I figured it out, I think the fee mentioned ($65) might be the college board fee (from 2004). I looked at the new version, and it says $72. I tried to show them it, and explain why it did not make any sense, but they said they are still going to charge me. Looks like they are really in need of money...lol. Thanks for alll your help!

Are you talking about the fee the school charges for administering the test?
If so the clep site explains that it can be $15-20 per test site for their fee but that the fee maybe more.
It sounds like the school you went to is ripping you off. I would call the admission department or deans office and see if this is normal practice.
