Scholarship Question
#1
Ok, so I just got notified that I have been accepted into a very presitigious, limited post-bacc program. While I'm very excited and a little scared at the prospect of any 6-12 months of school, I'm also worried about the cost. The school doesn't offer any scholarships and I really don't want to add to my current school loan for my MHA. I'm hoping to pay it off before the interest starts!!! Anyway, I'm wondering if anyone here knows how to go about finding academic scholarships? I have no clue and the schools FA office wasn't too helpful. Since my hubby and I both work I know I won't qualify based on income, but I'm hoping that I might qualify for something based on good academic standing, being a college instructor or a woman. Any ideas? I have tried doing a google search and keep coming up with nothing but for-profit school websites...UGH! My employer doesn't do tuition assistance, so I'm stuck on my own. The Post-Bacc will run about $14,000 so I'm hoping someone has some suggestions on where to look. Thanks in advance for any help!

Marianne,

CONGRATULATIONS!!!

On the actual question at hand...I think the school should have information on what scholarships they sponsor/partner on the financial aid page. You might also check the geteducated.com and the fafsa website for info.

Marianne, that's fantastic! Congratulations on the acceptance letter!

Here are a few links that might give you starting points:
College Grants for Women
"Back to School" Teacher Education Scholarship
Scholarship America - Because College Doesn't Happen by Chance
emerge scholarships
eLeaners.com

Call your state's Dept. of Education. There may be state-sponsored scholarships or grants, and/or they may have a list of private-sector or non-profit sponsored programs. I'm certain that is tracked by someone, and if they are not the ones, they should be able to direct you to someone that does have that list.

Also, check with your local Chamber of Commerce to see if they have a list of local organizations that might offer something to people just in your area.

Good luck! If those do not work, there are more out there.

Thanks Mrs. B and Bric! I was really scared since they only accept about 25 students a term that I might be hindered by my non-traditional degree and my age! Luckily, I got in, now I just have to find a way to pay for it. I will try all the links you provided and report back if I find anything useful! Thanks again!
