Sanity Check - WGU BSITM

I am mostly a Linux administrator, so the A+ and LPI certs are not worth it to me. I guess I am looking for more of a focused/direct path and I see the certs as a "monkey wrench" being thrown at me. The certs don't look particularly hard at all, but seems way more generalized than what I would like.

Another way to think about this - if the certifications are easier for you, then it will be faster to work through that portion of the degree. There's no requirement to advertise that you're A+/Net+/Sec+/LPI/ITIL certified. However, they are worth 19% of a WGU degree, so why not just pass the test, collect the degree, and move on?

Then you'll pass LPI quite easily in like 15 minutes. I understand if you feel like you don't need a specific cert(I certainly didn't) but it's the exact same as just taking a class that has a single final exam. I had a lot of classes that I didn't need. If it's easy, just pass it and move on. If you have to study some, then it's the same whether you're studying for a class or a cert. I'm not saying to go for any specific degree but don't see the (pretty easy) certs as a deal breaker to not go for a degree.

That's right, at the end of the day, you're looking at getting an accelerated Bachelors and Masters instead of taking a little longer for a Bachelors and then laddering up to the Masters. It all depends on what you need, I would recommend just getting IT done quickly through WGU and be over that obstacle. Take the "easy" certs along with it even though it's not what you need, it's already included... A Bachelors/Masters combo for under 9K, you can't really beat that.
