Digital marketing is still marketing. Most marketing has shifted to become digital as opposed to print. It's most of the same concepts. Marketing programs today include courses on digital marketing. The analytics is something you don't see a ton of in marketing programs. That's usually because analytics programs are more science based and tend to be about analytics in general. Analytics isn't really business based.

An interesting take to feel analytics is not business base when the lion's share of business decisions have shifted heavily into analytics as a core driver. Most likely, a key motivation WGU has invested in developing its business offerings to include an analytics program. Most MBA and DBA degrees also include a lot of data analytics in their programs. If one is interested in growing their business acumen, it would be advised to become familiar with this space.

In many marketing courses, you're taught that analytics are science based. Businesses utilize them to drive profits. WGU also has a master's degree in analytics. I would not say most, but some MBA programs have an analytics course. I don't have one with my MBA. I have not seen many DBA's require an analytics course at all. Analytics is not everyone's forte and there's nothing wrong with that. Many people struggle with statistics and math thus they struggle analytics. Those 3 all wrap together. Many digital marketing analytics folks approach it from the science background. You learn this in marketing courses. I know because I've taken them. I have a degree in marketing and have taken several digital marketing courses as an undergrad and as a grad student. I've worked with social media analytics and it is definitely something many people struggle to wrap their heads around.

Appreciate the share. Completely agree on how it can be challenging for those not comfortable with statistics and math. Most of my background comes from real-world experience and not in academics, minus my father's exposure through his DBA journey. In addition, he has created invaluable opportunities for my sister and I to to be exposed through his consulting business at several Fortune 100 companies. We have also been able to intern with a few significant players while doing data analytics, which enforces my familiarity with the topic.

I stand on the side in which analytics is essential for the growth and profitability of an organization. Gone are the days of using "your gut" to make decisions. As Procter and Gamble CEO David Taylor has said..."in God we trust. Everyone else bring data."

Agreed. Any [M/D]BA program that doesn't teach analytics-driven decision making in 2022 is setting up their graduates for collosal failure.
