Advice on taking CLEP!
#1
Hey everyone, how are you guys?
I'm going to be 24 this July and have never attended a day of college in my life. I decided not to attend college after high school, which was back in 2004.
I plan on attending a community college for 2 years or so before transferring to a university.
I did so-so in high school, I honestly did not have the best of grades and have below average grades in certain subjects like math/science, etc.

I was thinking I can score some credits with CLEP and maybe skipping some intro classes and whatever else is possible.
I ran into a number of sites such as instantcert.com, domeactreview.com, cleptestreview.com, passyourclass.com and speedyprep.com

Do any of you in my similar position have any experiences with these sites and any other ways of learning, studying, prepping, etc. that has helped you pass these tests?
I'm not too big on school but figured it would be something to fall back on and looking forward to going back to school the next semester.
Thanks in advance guys!

InstantCert is AMAZING, as everyone one this forum will surely tell you. PassYourClass is so-so. They charge a lot per book...which wouldn't be a problem except that the books are really thin and not extremely helpful. The book I have, English Lit, is decent (if a bit light) as far as content goes, but the practice tests are disappointingly unlike anything you'd run across in a real test.

For more study resources, check out this thread:

It gives sources for studying, taking practice tests, and for general advice. For more general advice, check out the Admin's CLEP Study Guide:

Hope this helps,

i tired the passyourclass study guide for college algebra. it was not good. their guides are very basic and only cover day one stuff of what's on the test. I did get my refund, after 5 emails and about 7 months.

I think the number of people who use this site and stick with it says alot.

If you just look at the signatures of some of us you can see there are a lot of test addicts:coolgleam: on this site.

I did test before finding this site, but I have saved money on useless books and learned more from this site. If I buy a book for assistance now I know which is best like REA, I don't get paid to say it, but I recommend this site to everyone I know who are thinking of testing out.

There are a lot of free video resources to be found at Annenberg Media, if you're interested. Each of the College/Adult video series has relevance to at least one university-level subject, so the videos can be of assistance to studying for challenge examinations covering similar subjects.

I'm one of the few on here that doesn't use IC, but I still loooove all the information you get here, even without being able to see the specific-feedback forum. I would use IC if I could spare the extra $20 a month Wink

I have used REA for almost every CLEP so far & most of them were right on. But make sure to use the search feature on this forum to read responses, it will be a life saver!!

Free Clep Prep.com is a fantastic resource for all CLEPs (plus DSST & ECE), and the author is a member here...

I also just heard recently about iTunes U, which is a fantastic resource! You can download college courses from colleges everywhere & listen to them for free.

Welcome to the forum!

You will find tons of helpful people and information here.

Just remember that many of us are going to colleges (the Big Three) which accept all CLEP and DSST credits. You will need to check the CLEP policies at the schools that you plan to graduate from, since that will be the only policies that will count for you. Planning to transfer from a 2 year program to a 4 year program can be especially tricky. Be sure to keep an eye on the requirements of the 4 year program, since they get to choose which credits they accept for the whole 4 year degree. Doing the research now will save having to retake credits later.
