COSC-FEMA Degree plan

Hi,

I have been stalking these threads on and off for awhile. The last three days from sun up to sun down my eyes have been glued on threads here. I truly love and appreciate you guys. The information you guys give is just amazing. I have learned so much but I need a little advice for my situation.

I need to earn my Bachelors fast. To attend school to become a occupational therapist I need a bachelors degree. I signed up for straighterline about two months ago. I have not attempted a class yet. I haven't been to school in soooo long and I am just afraid lol. I'm just worried about going thru an entire book and not knowing what exactly to study. I do like the idea of Instantcert and going the CLEP & DSST route. The site will provide me with flash cards and lead me on what to study.

Which route is easier? Straighterline or CLEP/DSST/Instantcert?

Here is my plan I am thinking of :

Charter Oaks State College General Studies Degree,
(As far as college credit I only have philosophy, Intro to logic from about 11 years ago and English Composition I).

So I will,
-Take the math course thru Aleks. I will start today.
-Take all of the FEMA courses and transfer them to Fredrick Community College. I will be starting today as well.
-I will take my Gen eds thru CLEP and DSST (only the easy classes).
-I will also take other Gen eds thru independent study programs like Western Washington University. (Any other recommendations please let me know)

Also, how would this look for my Master's Degree program. I need to have at least 3.20 GPA.

Do you guys have any other ideas or advice? It has always been my dream to have my degree. I am so motivated . I just need a really good easy plan. (Although I know it won't be very easy)

IT DEPENDS ON YOU, A COMBINATION IS PROBABLY THE RIGHT ANSWER. I WOULD SUGGEST STARTING WITH SOMETHING EASIER IN EACH CASE AND BUILDING CONFIDENCE AND AND TESTING EXPERIENCE AS YOU GO.

MAY OR MAY NOT BE BEST CHOICE FOR YOU. TESU HAS SOME OPTIONS THAT ARE MORE TEST FRIENDLY, BUT THEY WILL NOT TAKE FEMA IN ANY WAY.

COSC TAKES THEM DIRECT AND FOR FREE FROM FEMA...NO NEED TO PAY FOR THE FCC PROCESS AT ALL

CSU-PUEBLO AND UNIVERSITY OF IDAHO INDEPENDENT STUDIES, NONE ARE REALLY COST EFFECTIVE ANYMORE, PENN FOSTER HAS MANY ACE APPROVED COURSES MOSTLY IN BUSINESS THAT ARE AROUND $300/COURSE THESE WILL GENERALLY WORK AT THE BIG 3

THEN BE SURE THERE IS SUFFICIENT GRADED WORK FOR THEM TO SEE

Take a look at my signature line the AS using FEMA from COSC is pretty well fleshed out. See what TESU has to offer as well.

Thank you so much . If I go the Associates route for Emergency Management etc. do you think another college other than COSC will accept my degree? Will they accept the P on the transcript? Let's say I went for a Bachelors in general studies or liberal studies after receiving my associates in emergency management. Would that be a problem for some schools? Would they say they can't accept my degree because the grades are P? Or something like they don't offer emergency management courses so it wouldn't count or transfer?

Always up to the school, and yes some won't accept the FEMA in every instance. It's not really that simple though. You're only talking 20 or so credits of FEMA...this can be made up in a lot of ways. It will be simpler to go all the way at COSC.

As you complete the ALEKS classes, you can start with Beginning Algebra and Intermediate Algebra for 6 general elective credits, then take College Algebra to get three more and fulfill the Quantitative requirement. Search the forum for effective ways to complete ALEKS classes.

Do you have any experience with occupational therapy? Are you a COTA, for example? Or an EMT? OT programs are extremely competitive and will expect you to have lots and lots of science credits with labs. If you have a particular OT program in mind, you should see what its prerequisites are and make sure you fulfill them in your degree plan.

Keep in mind also that if you have professional certifications, you might be able to use them in a degree plan at one of the Big Three.
