I just finished taking my multiple choice portion of the Principles of Public Speaking DSST, and in two days I'll be taking my recorded portion. Anyone taken this recently and have any advice? Any help would be greatly appreciated, I've done some speeches in PME (professional military education) and from what I learned from that is just keep talking even if it doesn't seem to have any relation to the topic keep talking.

I took this back in January and passed both sections. I spent 12 minutes of the 20 that they give you writing my speech verbatim, 3 minutes practicing pace, and then used the last five minutes to record. As long as you sound coherent, and don't stop talking until your time is up, you should pass. I remember some of the things I said at the end sounded kind of dumb because I spoke too fast and ran out of things to say, but once I hit the time mark I wrapped up and ended it and got a passing score.

This is exactly what it was like in my PME class, I remember saying things during my speech that just sounded dumb but it filled the gaps and a little bit of repeating but explaining more. You were actually able to write your speech out completely? Or you just did the outline and made a bunch of subtopics that you could talk about if need be? I dunno if I could come up with a 3-5 minute speech written out in 12 minutes, unless I knew the subject well. Thank you for the help though with the time management though! |
