Hey,
I'm new to using the flashcards, so here goes! I am studying for western europe since 1945 and Rise and fall of ussr - I am giving both exams next saturday (so fast right?).
I read through the specific forums and most users say you can pass using just IC flashcards.
WHAT DOES THAT MEAN!?!?!!#
I just started my IC use, and am getting around 30% right (not good, I know, but its a start).
What percentage is considered good enough to pass (which is all I am shooting for, a 45)?
I hear people say get up to 70%, but is that accurate? And also, for people who have used the flashcards only, does just going through them a few times and learning those facts translate into a pass?
THANKS!

WHAT DOES THAT MEAN!?!?!!# It probably means that either the exam is very easy, or that the flashcards do a good job of giving you the information needed to pass. I've never seen the flashcards, nor taken the exam so I am not in a position to comment on which one is true.

If it is an entirely new subject for you, you should expect closer to 0%. That you are getting 30% at first is a good sign that this exam might play to your strengths.

If you are ONLY using InstantCert, then I would suggest you settle for no less than 100%. In fact, I would make the same suggestion for any source that you use. Know everything. Then, there will be no doubt that you will pass milelol: Besides, education is more important than the score you get on a test, the more thoroughly you know the material, the higher the quality of your educational experience will be

I'm going to say something that is often met with an unpopular reaction, but I feel it to be the appropriate answer to your question. CLEP exams are multiple-choice tests. Many of them are fantastically easy, too, especially for people who are adept or experienced at taking these types of exams. It is likely that if someone can pass after only using the cards a few times, then they would have passed even if they didn't use the cards at all. That would mean that they either already had a background in the subject, got lucky, used primarily test-taking skills to artfully find correct responses, or that the test was just that easy. If I were to guess, I would say that it is a little bit of all of those.
The point is, unless you are either already know the subject or are feeling lucky, I wouldn't use other people's experiences as a guide for my own. You want to know when you can be certain that you are ready for the test? When you can pick up the exam content outline and none of the subjects listed give you a queasy feeling inside.
Best wishes, and let us know how it all turns out! :coolgleam:

That means that the forum members who relied primarily on the IC flashcards for those subjects, took and passed those exams and found that the IC flashcards did a good enough job of covering those subjects. They are giving a message to other testers who use IC flashcards as their primary source. In essence, it is a message from IC users to other IC users.
Of course people who don't use IC flashcards as a primary source wouldn't understand that.
When you move onto other subjects and the people who primarily use IC flashcards advice you to use certain additional resources for a particular exam, then that tells you that additional review of specific topics is necessary.

90-100%.
Good luck!!!

Passing these exams is not as easy as some might make it sound. Of course each person is unique, and some folks can pass with little or no study, but they are the exception - not the rule.
Also, you can't plan to pass by the skin of your teeth; there's not enough margin for error, so you might just fail.
Try to get nearly all of the flashcards correct before you attempt it, and supplement the flashcards with other study sources too. REA Test Prep makes decent study guides that include practice exams. The practice exams will help to gauge your readiness for the actual exam.
Good luck!

Thanks for the solid replies people!
Well, according to the other users in the specific exam thread, they said that if you just want to pass with a 50ish or so, just do IC. Some people (no doubt with background knowledge) got 60's with just IC.
My plan is currently going through the flashcards to get to as high a percentage as I can, and learning the specific exam stuff people say.
For example, the western Europe exam has audio mp3's. A good majority of people say they listen to the mp3 2-3 times and go through the flashcards 2-3 times and they are ready.
So far, On my first go-through of the flashcards, I am at 34% (western Europe) and 36% (USSR). This should improve in time, since it was the first time ever seeing this info.

I'd say that if you can get 80% of the flashcards and a 60 or higher on a Petereson Practice test, then you are good to go, but it differs for every test and it differs for every person. I got 84% of the flashcards and a 64 on the practice tests and read the REA book twice for US HISTORY II and got like a 71 or 68 or something on the real test.

Pre-Study-Prep: Obtain or set up whatever materials I will need to study (IC Flashcards, REA Books, Standard Deviants Videos, Pass-Your-Class Guides, and Petersons Practice Exams.
Week One: Begin to read books, review flashcards, watch videos. Call your test center and make an appointment in advance as they sometimes require a few weeks advance notice)
Week Two: Re-read books, review flashcards, watch videos Take 1-2 practice exams
Week Three: Continue to review all materials, take additional/final practice exams. You should be passing these with room to spare. Take real exam at end of the week and PASS.
Note you should have at this point already acquired pre-study-prep materials for your next exam so as not to waste time.
Something Else To Know
FACT: The lowest possible score is a 20. The hight possible is an 80.
FACT: Approx. 1/2 the questions on the test must be successfully answered to get a 50, or a pass.
THE HYPOTHESIS: In a 100 question test, such as Sociology and many others, there are only 60 possible points (between 20-80) for 100 questions.
60 points divided by 100 questions = .6pts
If each questions is worth .6 points, 50 correct questions = 50q X .6pts = 30pts
You must add 20 since 0 correct questions = 20pts.
30 points + 20 points = 50 points, or a pass.
Now:If each point in a 100 question test is worth .6 points, 100 questions X .6 points = 60; 60 + 20 = 80.
By this formula, answering 75 questions correctly would translate to a score of 65.
