Questions - Credit sources and transfer

sekiflying Wrote:I just register Aleks today and doing beginning of Algebra.
I got (286 of 375 topics) 76% already

1. I am wondering what is the passing score?

2. Will the percentage shown on the transcript?

3. If I change course in Aleks, can I turn it back to the old courses with the records?

1. You've passed the minimum score needed for credit - 70% Smile

2. No, percentages are not viewable on an ACE transcript

3. Yes, they will have a record of your past progress. BUT you will need to take a new initial assessment. This means that if you've forgotten how to work some of the problems, you percentage might drop.

ANOTHER NOTE... before switching courses, as a precaution, print out or save a copy of your progress report and pie chart.

I've been looking into this too as it's much cheaper than CLEP tests. It looks like the cost to sign up for ACE is $40-45, plus $15 for each transcript. So you'd want to have all your math credits completed before you request it so you aren't paying for each class.

Is this information correct?

Try to get all ACE approved courses on your ACE transcript before sending it anywhere just to save yourself some money.

For ALEKS, take a desired course/s and complete them a 70% completion rate. The completion must be a 70% of mastered, not a combination of master and studied. Once complete sign up at ACE. Membership at ACE is free but, a $15 fee is required to send any transcripts. Search for ALEKS on ACE then find your course. There will be an option to submit the course on ACE. Once ACE contacts ALEKS to confirm completion, credit recommendation will be given. Courses on ALEKS overlap each other and because of this the big 3 will not accept all eight of them on the terms of duplication. ACE will continue to recommend credit for the courses as long as McGraw-hill keeps paying ACE to recommend their courses. SL is the same.

I called ACE today and there IS an initial fee of $40 to set up an account now. (The TESC paperwork I have says it's $45.) You can pay the $20/mo. fee to ALEKS, and they do an initial assessment and place you into your math class.

As AkaiOkami said, when you hit 70% of the material completed, you can request the score be sent to your ACE account. Still way cheaper than CLEPs for math. ;-)

Just to clarify, membership for an ACE account is NOT free. You can sign up for free now, however, to request for your first transcript you'd have to pay the membership fee of $40. Included in this $40 fee, is your first transcript for free. Every additional transcript will cost $15.

Thus, if you ordered only one transcript from ACE, you'd only need to pay $40. If you order more than once, you'd have to pay $15 on every additional order. Hope that's clear. Smile

I'm still getting to grips with how Aleks works. If MyPie says I've currently mastered 244/358 topics (68%), does that mean I can stop when I get my % up to 70 and transfer to my ACE transcript then? I don't have to keep going until I've mastered 100%?

You need to take an assessment and pass it with at least a 70% to get credit

As iwant2stalku said, you'll need to take the progress assessment and score at least 70%. The current percentage in your pie is just an indicator of your learning progress.

Sekiflying,

As I have ADD, I cannot remember what you need to know. I strongly suggest that you do a search of the forum for the answers to your questions. You'll learn how to "make" the system give you a new assessment. You'll learn how to "ACE" the credits. ALEKS can be a useful tool, but you want to do it correctly. I can't imagine having to spend any more time in Algebra than I'd absolutely have to do!
