Questioning the COSC evaluation...or any evaluation!?!?!
#1
I was wondering if anyone had done this...I received my non-official evaluation from Charter Oak and didn't agree with where all the credits were placed. I wrote to my adviser to give suggestions as to why certain credits should be placed in various requirements. Not a ton of credits....but enough to make a difference, especially when they are being counted as free electives and they should fit into general ed requirements.

For example, I'm required to have a Business or Organizational Elective for my concentration:
For which I believe my Business Practices for Visual Artists (3 cr) class should cover... (This class required writing an entire business plan. Plus outlined business ethics, such as the AIGA guidelines, appropriation laws, etc.) But it was counted as a free elective by COSC, leaving me to have to take another business class.

Has anyone else challenged the initial evaluation with any results getting the credits in the proper requirement slots?!? I even included the my community college's course description guide to clarify each class's subject matter.

I'm mostly concerned because if COSC's evaluation is what they are accepting, then that means I would have less/or-the-same credits to finish at Troy University than COSC. (Troy is counting my two web design classes taken at my community college as computer science credits, but COSC's evaluation didn't even count them for the Information Systems electives, which kinda surprised me.)

I think my advisor is has been very good at communicating with me, and probably welcomes my feedback...but I was wondering if anyone else on the boards has had a similar experience and successfully clarified where their credits belong.

Thanks folks!

I cannot comment on COSC, but I would assume they would be pretty similar, so I can tell you about TESC. Three of the classes from my initial evaluation were not coded as I thought they should be, so all I did was send them a copy of the syllabus for each class, along with the class code and description that I thought was a better fit. All three ended up being reclassified and I am sure you will have the same outcome. They are just trying their best to put the classes in the right place with the information they have and your syllabus will give them the additional information they need to make the right decision.

Hey Albativo! Thanks. Yea I got a reply from my advisor. The reason why they didn't count some of my credits in gen Ed slots is because I'm needing to fulfill my upper level credit requirements, which makes sense to me now. He did go ahead and place some of my credits in the Fine Art and Lit category which I didn't expect but was a nice surprise. He also said that during my cornerstone class I can do a better assessment as to what I need and what would be the easiest way to place the credits I had questions about. So I'm pretty satisfied at how it's being explained to me. Smile Were your credits all lower level or a mix of both??

In my case they were reclassified from CIS-319 to COS-352 and CIS-299 to CMP-111. Although the one class was switched from a 200 to 100 level, it went from being in free electives to natural sciences, so it is definitely looking at all of your courses that are not going where you like to see if there is a more appropriate course code.
