Question about failing a class
#1
This doesn't really pertain to any exams, but I'm taking a class my local community college. It's an elective class, that I'm only taking because I need a class in Arts Appreciation, the class is called music appreciation and my adviser had said this would be a good class to take. It's an online class, but most of the class I have to listen to opera, orchestra type music, which I absolutely can't stand. My question is, when you fail a class, which I'm pretty sure I will with this and I don't re take the class will the class count towards my gpa if I have more than the required amount of credits for my degree? In other words, lets say my degree I need 128 credits, and I have 135 or something like that, does a school generally take only 128 towards your degree and gpa? Or when I go to transfer my community college class, will the University I'm attending even take this class since it's a failing class? I haven't finished the course yet, so could I basically get an incomplete or withdrawal if I didn't finish, an I or W I'd think would look a lot better than a F. Basically is there a way to eliminate this class/grade from my gpa that someone can recommend? Thanks

If you fail the class you will not receive the credits for it. your degree will still need to 128 credits to graduate. You will have to check you schools policy on failing classes. Some schools will let you retake the class to cancel out your bad grade. if it is still early in your class you may be able to drop it or withdraw, doing this will make it so you dont get an F in your gpa but most of the time it will still be on your transcript as a W or Drop opposed to an F. My advice is to tough it out and shoot for a C but if you know you are going to fail you need to talk to your adviser.

the 128 credits i'm not worried about, i'll have more than 128, the class i'm taking is about 3/4 the way done, my current is at a 73% on it but it's falling every time take a test, but i have absolutely no desire to finish it, so if i didn't finish it, would i get an incomplete for the class, if i were to finish it, then i'll end up w/an F, mainly because the final is worth 21% and i'm positive i'll fail that, in fact the only things i go right were because i was able to look them up on wikipedia, but most of the class is determining which types of music i'm listening to, which i haven't the slightest idea.

I know Excelsior won't accept (transfer in) failing grades. Which is to say it won't show. All schools are different but I'd personally advise eating a "W" over an "F" any-day!

i'm not worried about the transfer of credit, i'm just worried about the F, so i figured i'd not finish and get an incomplete.

Hello Brian B. If you are at EC the "F" or "W"Smile wont show up. You'll be good to go.
The only "F" I ever got was in a PE class because I broke my ankle and couldn't participate.
-I know there is an EC quote in this forum- if you search it you can find their policy/ quote. Take care and enjoy this great Easter Sunday.
