Haven't been on here in forever. I've been teaching English in asia for a few years now, and the degree was no problem at all. It's especially nice that Asian countries generally want to see your original degree and not your transcripts, which look a bit odd compared to normal degrees.
If you want to be an ESL teacher, keep in mind these countries have a cultural attitude towards discrimination and you may be ruled out of a job for your age, gender, race, orientation, anything. Just keep that thick skin and recognize that the best schools don't behave this way.
If you want to be a subject teacher in an international school, there are online options. The PGCEi at Nottingham University is 3500GBP and only requires an initial in person orientation; the rest is online. I'm starting this program in April so I can go on to teach mathematics.

I am getting my BA in English, and decided to teach abroad. I heard it would be best to have a TEFL (mytefl.com has a course for $299, and that 120 hours. I've also seen bloggers do it and they say its a good source) for celta it would cost around $3,000. As long as you have a bachelors and a TEFL, you'll still be able to get a job. I also read that it would be good if you had a lot of experience with teaching, you can get some by tutoring either after school/online/ or private. Hopefully this helps!

As long as the degree has regional accreditation through the U.S dept of education, you are good. Its the highest accreditation and you can get your license or certification.
