Quantitative Literacy credit for TESU BSBA
#1
Just a heads up -- according to my academic advisor, "in order to satisfy quantitative literacy, all business students must choose between Quantitative Business Analysis (MAT-119) or College Algebra (MAT-121)."

I registered for TECEP MAT-105: Applied Liberal Arts Mathematics this morning and noticed it was listed under my gen ed electives. Emailed the advisor and was told BSBA students have to do one of the two courses above.

Why did I switch over from COSC? Confused

Yep, this is listed on all the BSBA's credit distribution pages. Have to take Stats for the Math requirement and MAT-119 or MAT-121 for the QuantLit requirement. Hope you're able to get through one of them easily!
Completed:
BA History & Psychology, Thomas Edison State University, March 2020
ASNSM Mathematics, Thomas Edison State University, March 2020

Up Next:
JD, Cornell Law School, Class of 2024

Those are the TESU courses that they will accept. You can also transfer in courses from outside TESU (like those from Study.com or Straighterline) to meet those requirements as well.

Keep in mind that academic advising's job is to recommend courses for you to take at TESU. They don't go out of their way to suggest courses via external sources, and most advisors don't really have a strong grasp on transfer credits in general.

My mistake-- I was going by these lists:

https://www.tesu.edu/academics/courses/2019-and-after
https://www.tesu.edu/degree-completion/e...cep-credit

I thought I could take any of the courses listed under Quantitative Literacy so I registered for Liberal Arts Math as it seemed to be the easiest. Fortunately, I already have the Stats credit from the college I attended 15 years ago. I have 10 more courses to go at this point and I'm tired. Lol. Grateful for the opportunity to get my degree online but I want it to be over with soon. Signed up for Study.com's Quantitative Literacy, seems easy enough so far.

Didn't someone say the CSMLearn course took care of their quantitative literacy requirement at TESU?

Not sure how they treat it for the BSBA, though.

It depends on the degree. This appears to work for the BALS, but the BSBA has specific minimum requirements.

At one point someone said that, although now people are reporting a different course number.

I wouldn't take this course until there was some clarity, or you had room for free electives.

As for the BSBA, it will NOT work for the math requirement.

Looks like it won't work for a BSBA. There was a post directly from CSMLearn that stated it transferred in as:

"Thomas Edison State University: BUS-210 Quantitative Methods for Decision Makers (can be used to satisfy 3 credits of the general education Quantitative Literacy requirement, the general education Natural Sciences requirement, a Statistics requirement, the general education Intellectual or Practice Skills requirement, or as a general education elective)"
TESU, BSBA-HR Completed December 2020

Completed: B&M CC: 67 units applied to degree Study.com: Principles of Management, Principles of Marketing, Computing, International Business, Library Science, Managerial Accounting, Leading Organizational Change, Finance, Organizational Theory, Strategic Human Resources (30 units) Davar: Organizational Behavior, Managerial Communication (6 units) Sophia: Microeconomics, Statistics, College Algebra, Conflict Resolution, Leading Teams (11 units) Institutes: Ethics (2 units) TESU: Business Capstone, Cornerstone (4 units)

I used it for my Quantitive Literacy requirement but I'm getting a BS in Homeland Security and Emergency Management. I think it's a good course to take, regardless, as it was $39 for 3 credit hours and you can't beat that price. If it didn't fill your QL requirement, it's a cheap 3 credits towards electives.
TESU - BS in Homeland Security & Emergency Management (BS.HSEM) (In Progress)
Started from scratch - 01/2019 - Completion - ??

Credits: 69/120
SDC: ENG-104, HIS-108, COM-102, COM-120, POLS-101, POLS-102, POLS-103, SOC-101, PSY-101, PSY-104, COMP-102, BUS-107, BUS-109 - 39cr
Sophia: Managing Conflict, Effective Teams, Student Success - 3cr
TEEX: Cyber 101, Cyber 201, Cyber 301, Basic Property Technician, Foundations of Fingerprint Comparison, Death Investigation - 19cr
Institutes: Ethics - 2cr
CSMLearn: The CSM Course - 3cr
ALEKS: College Algebra - 3cr

Do they want stats or will they accept business stats?
