How much stats? I'm sure it varies (there's more than one version of the exam), but it's not like you have to take the stats class to succeed in psych. Know things like: difference between independent & dependent variable (be able to recognize which is which from a verbal description of an experiment), be able to recognize a negative and positive correlation both on a chart and in a scenario. Are you using a textbook to study? Most have a chapter about research methods & measurement.
As for people to know about: Definitely know the big names associated with major movements. It's more important to know who is connected with which theory and how the theories differ than to know what books they wrote. You can find this on the internet; Wikipedia and the exam feedback thread on this site are your friend.

I didn't have a question on Karen Horney, however, she was an important neo-Freudian, so I might have, and understanding her viewpoint helped me understand Freud, who I did have questions about. I didn't have a question about Carol Gilligan, but knowing about her helped me understand Kohlberg's theories, which I did have questions about. I didn't even come close to having a question about Gordon Allport (hardly a big name), but having read about him, I could eliminate him as a choice and got a right answer.
