Could use some help regarding a BALS at TESU

Hi all,

Since I decided to go for the BALS instead of the BSBA, I've gotten myself a little confused.

I've got a good handle on the General Education requirements, so all I *really* need help with is the Option A area of Study requirements. My situation is complicated by the fact that I don't have much access to CLEP/DST/Pearson testing centers, being overseas.

So it looks like I need 15 credits at the 300/400 level (UL) in "Liberal Studies". I am assuming (dangerous, I know) that "liberal studies" is anything from the following list:

Communications
Computer Science
Criminal Justice
General Management
Health and Wellness
Human Resources Management
Humanities
Labor Studies
Natural Sciences/Mathematics
Psychology
Social Sciences

Is that right? If so, I think I've got it. If not, I have no clue what I'm doing, and desperately need help

TESU recently changed their BALS, so it's a little more difficult for us to tell you. Now, they have these concentrations like Management - but they are very specific in what they will take for it. That one for sure is not test-out-able (you can't find Change Management or Industrial Psychology).

Previously, Liberal Studies was Humanities (ART, COM, ENG, ETH, HUM, LIT, MUS, PHI, REL, & foreign languages), Social Sciences (AOJ, ECO, HIS, POS, SCI, SOC, SOS), and NatSci/CompSci courses.

It looks like they've added the Management & HR concentrations that were never considered LS courses, so it kind of throws a monkey wrench in the program. BUT, I would say that if you're not doing the Management or HR concentrations, that maybe you should go ahead and check with TESU to see if the management courses will still work in that case? Because normally, for non Business majors, they are considered free electives (with a few exceptions, like Org Behavior can be considered PSY, Managerial Comm & Marketing Comm can be considered COM, etc.).

I would probably stay away from the concentrations and just do the Option A, so you're free to take what you want.

Option A sounds like the only one you can test out of everything (except the capstone, of course). Option B would make a test-out strategy a lot harder, from what I see, especially for me, since I don't have easy access to CLEP tests. Thanks!

When we say "test out" on here, that also includes online providers like SL, Study.com, ALEKS, etc.

Yes, I meant that I might have to take online courses at TESU or elsewhere to get the credit requirements, rather than testing out of them. I didn't mean SL/TECEPs etc.

The only courses you would need at TESU are the Cornerstone & Capstone, everything else is able to be found elsewhere.
