I'd just read that the Post Office is seeking congressional permission to end Saturday deliveries. The move could save as much as 3.5bn a year.
Personally, I can see the budgetary concerns, but man... I'm not sure if I care for the idea. Granted, the only things I expect in the mail anymore, other than the odd item, are bills, but still...
Allow me to introduce myself. My name is Wile E. Coyote, genius. I am not selling anything nor am I working my way through college, so let's get down to basics: you are a rabbit and I am going to eat you for supper. Now don't try to get away, I am more muscular, more cunning, faster and larger than you are, and I am a genius, while you could hardly pass the entrance examinations to kindergarten, so I'll give you the customary two minutes to say your prayers.

<sigh> see, the govt doesn't know how to do business. Let's let business be in business and the govt govern.

Where's the
"It wouldn't really impact me, but would still annoy me greatly" choice?
I like being able to ship Saturday mornings if I need to (I sell books & CDs on Amazon), but I could make do without it if need be.

I don't know, the USPS has been self-funded since the early 1980s. As they have limited avenues to pursue new business that is within their
core competency making hard choices about service vs revenues is just the sort of thing business excels at.
And my weekend would improve if I didn't get bills then

There's always FedEx/UPS for those important time-sensitive saturday deliveries. It won't effect my company at all, but it means my Netflix DVDs mailed on a friday would have to wait until monday. I can live with that...

Doesn't affect me... I live out in the sticks and only get mail three times a week anyway (M/W/F).
Sounds like it would be excellent stimulus for FedEx/UPS/DHL bottom lines.

And they want to run our health care!
milelol: Maybe they will shut down the emergency rooms 2 days a week when they run that into the ground too. Still hoping all this change will stop soon. 8 short months!

Here in my county, they are removing free standing postal drop mailboxes. They have already removed over 400 and have plans to remove 400 more. It means, if you either don't have home pick up or have material you want to get out faster, you have to go to an actual post office.
The boxes being fazed out are because of reduced usage (yeah, e-mail vs. snail mail -- guess who's winning?), citing they average collection of less than 25 pieces of mail in each per day.
Another expense to cut at a time when they, too, are seeing an economic downturn.

Oh, it looks like it's going to get worse than just closing on Saturday...have to wait and see what the final verdict is. From my experience, if it comes out in a national story, it has already been discussed.

I suppose the government isn't obliged to offer a mail service, but
really. Every other day would be annoying. My sister gets the mail on odd days, and I get it on even days. If USPS did that, it would completely mess up our schedule.
