Possible test-friendly TESU BA Sociology degree (after July 2015)?

I've never posted here before, but I've been lurking for a few months and finally applied to TESU a couple of weeks ago. As my first post, I thought I'd try my hand at a test-friendly (minus one class and the capstone) BA Sociology degree, as I hadn't seen one posted before.

Please take a look at tell me if I'm way off base or if you have other suggestions. This assumes (and I have not checked with TESU to confirm) that two TCC and one CSU Global CBE soc courses will be accepted as UL as recommended, and that standard Stats classes will be accepted for TESU's "Methods of Sociological Research (or Statistics)" requirement.

Combine this plan with the current known general ed test-out plans, and fill out your free electives with any necessary TECEPs to meet any applicable residency requirement for your enrollment plan, and I think you have a soc BA...

• Introduction to Sociology TECEP, DSST, CLEP, UExcel, Straighterline (LL)

Since you'd be using 3 of TCC's soc options, you might want to have at least some interest in Jewish social topics, or it might be a bit dull to get those 9 credits, but unfortunately those interested in sociology test-outs have limited options.

Hopefully I didn't embarrass myself here. What do y'all think? Will the credits I think of transferring as UL actually transfer that way? Any other suggestions or credit sources?

I'm not sure that Substance Abuse would count as a sociology course (it transcribes as a SOS- course, not SOC-). It might though.

Some other sociology test options include UExcel Juvenile Delinquency (200-level at TESU), UExcel World Population and UExcel Cultural Diversity (both upper level at TESU). Those are all probably both cheaper and easier than the TCC exams would be. I've personally taken all three of those and transferred them to TESU.

The difficulty of completely testing out of either the sociology major or the psychology major are a big part of the reason the social sciences major is so popular, I think .

If you want courses though, CSU-pueblo has a huge selection of Sociology courses in their extended studies / self-paced option. They're about $500 a class, which would save quite a bit for most people compared to TESU's tuition.

This is at the bottom of the TESU Sociology degree page, so I'm assuming that means they accept it

Thanks for those UExcel options, I didn't realize they would transfer in as Sociology but that certainly makes sense!

I might avoid UExcel as much as I can, due to the fact that they award a letter grade. If I do sub-par on one and get the minimum C, I don't want it to ding my GPA on any potential future grad school applications that require original transcripts. But hopefully this will be helpful for others.

I have a bit of sociology LL credits already from a community college, and a few UL psych credits from a 4-year, so I'm awaiting my TESU evaluation to see which way I'll go, but if both paths are somewhat similar in ease/time-frame , I'd prefer soc.

Ah, that answers the question about Substance abuse for sure - I didn't know that

One thing to note about grad schools is that some will not count exams as part of your undergrad GPA even if they're graded - if you're looking at a specific school it's worth checking. For what it's worth, I never studied for more than a few hours for any of my UExcels, and I've never scored less than a B. But then, My gpa is beyond saving so I never worried too much about that, lol.

When I did my social science degree, I focused on psych and soc because I don't like history at all but would have done your degree plan in a heartbeat! I am still thinking about the Jewish food class. When I was a culinary student, we had 1 tiny part of a banquet course that focused on Jewish (Kosher) food, mainly dealing with catering and the laws followed by orthodox families and how we could screw things up if we didn't know what NOT to do lol. The other part was during our meat butchery class and focused on animal slaughter. I went to culinary school in NY, so most of the natives already knew a lot of it, but being a farm girl, it was all new to me and very exciting. I ended up marrying a Jewish man, but we don't observe any of the food rituals.

This is off topic, but I wonder how LSAC would look at things like graded UExcels. Not that it matters much for me, just the thought of taking the LSAT gives me a panic attack (and if somehow I miraculously did a decent job, I'd still never have a way to pay for law school). Each law school uses the LSAC's recalculation of your GPA, and I have a feeling they would include UExcels in that, as they seem to be pretty broad as to what they look at.

Though she's not exactly practicing, my wife is Jewish. I wouldn't necessarily choose to take equivalent courses to these TCC options if I was going a more traditional B&M route, but they seem like they could be pretty interesting, especially the food one you're looking at. If I end up taking it and get to it before you decide on it, I'll certainly give you my feedback.

I know others have suggested a few tweaks, but I wanted to say that I appreciated both of your plans. They are clearly written out and gave me some initial ideas for both Psych & Sos AOS options.
